I can imagine the pressure building already… Martha certainly has her hands full! Wish I could have read the whole short story.
Only participated in a Christmas play once when I was about five or six. It must've been the Nutcracker because I was a blue top and my twin was a yellow one. Our mother made the costume with a hoop and a lot of fabric. I recall that our hats were Quaker Oats cardboard boxes covered with the same fabric. Moms had to be innovative to save money.

A good description of the twins. I'm not sure where the story is going. Is this a book or short story?
I am an identical twin. I also have fraternal twin brothers, 16 years younger. From pictures when we were the same age, we all looked like quads. At 16, we no longer even thought about Santa Claus. But we continued the tradition longer for our younger sister. We got guns early that year so that we could go hunting in the fall.
Our mother was a good cook and I learned to cook at home and on campfires very easily and don't recall ever burning anything. That's because I always watched what I was cooking carefully to make sure that I got it out of the fire/burner/oven at just the right time. Mom was very busy and occasionally burned cookies while trying to do many other things. We ate them anyway if she didn't throw them away for we got to them. ;-)
