You took on a daunting task of writing realistically about what it was like to go ashore on D-Day. From my view, you succeeded quite well. For the few that are still alive, I hope that you had interviewed one of them or heard one of them talk about it at some time.
Unlike most short stories. It doesn't come to any satisfactory conclusion. Just the reality of the beach battle about to begin for Warren. Certainly could be the first chapter of a novel.

Human Paradox (Short Story) - 11/23/2016 2:16:42 AM
I appreciated the "human" element in your Sci-Fi story which brings out the painful truth about what we earthlings continue to do to ourselves and the planet.

I'm glad you didn't take the Stephen Hawking approach. But you left me wondering in the beginning because I thought the story was another version of H. G. Wells's War of the Worlds again. Probably the best story of alien annihilation arrival ever, that has been rehashed over and over again in popular books and movies. My book, The Kaleidoscope Effect, and your story are one of the few examples portraying aliens who have traveled great distances to reach us as the good guys. Bravo!
But I am wondering why they left the people of the earth earth to one another before they acted to help the survivors. Perhaps, they were just allowing the population to reach a more sustainable level than 7+ billions before stopping the killing.
Well written. But you did use city's in place of cities and it's in one place instead of its. But I believe the Microsoft grammar and spelling checker is to blame for that.

The Report (Short Story) - 11/18/2016 1:42:42 AM
If only ... Your story is a poignant reminder of how many people dread their city jobs inside an office walled off by a cubicle. If only more had the wherewithal to follow their dreams before life passes them by.
The Report (Short Story) - 11/17/2016 8:55:08 AM
Surreal in a good way. After reading it from their office cubicles. Many bored stiffs will leave those cubicles and run to the window to see if they can escape to greener pastures. On the other hand, all they have to do is bring up that pastoral scene on their computer monitors, and then jump in.

I got caught up in your story.
