A very good article for employers who wish to have a healthier workforce. We are social creatures, and when our workplace culture promotes healthy behavior, we tend to do what all the others do.
On the other hand, personal health is largely an individual thing. A person can be healthy in a very unhealthy environment at work. Where I worked, people no longer took the stairs when elevators were available. When electric carts became available about 15 years ago, everyone quit walking for riding between buildings. Sack lunches were replaced by fast food or lavish lunches. Obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes thrived.
Technology and suburban automobile commuter living has greatly changed lifestyles. In the past, we were actively engaged in physical activity at home and at work in order to prepare for dry periods or winter. Our minds were always engaged in survival through coming hard times. Modern technology has lessened the need for continual physical labor in order to survive. But, the increased complexity of life is quite stressful, and we often seek out distractions of many kinds to avoid facing an uncertain future, now largely looming from loss of employment. We lose focusing our minds on the future for more instant gratification and stress release. Generally that only increases stress and bad lifestyles.

My mother began to need help about five years ago, so with counseling she entered assisted living. She is now 92 and each year requires more by way of assistance and health issues. Of her five children, only my sister lives close enough to see her on a weekly basis. The rest of us are a thousand miles away and I have a great deal of difficulty getting there since I am receiving care for my quadriplegia in my home, unable to travel great distances.
Fortunately, we are not financially drained because she is on welfare of her own choosing. But my sister is faced with all the weekly problems that aging as brought to my mother. It is very trying for her to meet all my mother's needs.

You forgot the most overriding advantage--Prestige. Everyone wants to keep up with their neighbors. When one person in a neighborhood buys a new 4 x 4 with its styling, room and off-road ability, not to mention its imposing size and stance. Budgets go out the window and these cars/trucks are purchased merely to, "Keep up with the Joneses."

You seem to be confusing tourists/travelers with immigrants. If we are dealing with tourists, bilingual (meaning two languages) won't do. Typically, signage like that is at least quad lingual with English, French, Japanese and Chinese as a minimum. If you put signs like that on a highway many drivers will be more confused than if you don't.
I think you are really writing about universal street and road signs using symbols instead of words. I think that will work as long as people get educated to what they mean.

Northern states in the United States like Wisconsin, prohibit classic and antique cars on the road after a certain date. Salt used to melt ice on roads is very corrosive and destructive of older steel automobiles.
Most insurers will consider mileage and if your car is very low mileage they will add it to your normal car insurance at a minimal rate. But it certainly pays to shop around.

Most of us will never have the luck or ability (didn't Rawling draw beautiful sketches of her characters? And King seemed to have some connection to filmmakers to get his books quickly into films?).
I am fortunate enough not to have to make any kind of living from my writing anymore. I wrote everything from specifications, policies and procedures, plans and proposals during my long career in industry and higher education. My retirement allows me to write what I like. With so many entering digital publishing of ebooks, and the quality not being determined other than sales and/or reviews, only a small fraction will sell enough books to make a living.
I think that traditional publishing, with both good and bad qualities: Editing generally quite good. Sometimes the content not worth reading, is on the decline and dying.
