I have heard several of my African friends from Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Cameroon complain of the same problem. They are all well educated like you and have immigrated to the United States. Some have returned to work in their country, only to return to the States because they found it difficult to stay at home.
On the other hand, I recently read an article in Playboy describing how Lagos has become a thriving economic center. The biggest concern I have is the rapid deforestation, loss of wildlife, and drought that is making farming more and more difficult. And so many are fleeing politically unstable areas as nomadic refugees.
It is people like you and my friends who can make the difference and make change in your countries. Perhaps by going back and entering politics. United States and various charities are certainly pouring a lot of money into projects of improvement. I'm encouraged by solar initiatives to replace charcoal for cooking and electricity to remote villages, well projects provide clean water, and computer initiatives provide education and connection to the rest of the world.
