Well written. I'm having a little trouble understanding why calculated murder by none other than an emperor is considered good reading for "young adults."
I also see this, so far at least, could be written has a historical fiction rather than fantasy. Like wanton violence that so permeates action works these days, fantasy also seems to be very popular, even though most fantasy is merely a soap opera of real life set in some "mysterious" settings with strange names and even stranger, powers. Like all the comic book sagas that are now being made into movies and television. Young adults read comic books. So it is only natural that they will read novels and watch television and movies made from the comic. Helps create brand loyalty.
Come to think of it, for some reason, I'm enjoying the characters and the situations In The Walking Dead… From comics. And, thoroughly enjoyed Sin City, also adapted from comics. But I read neither of those comics, so these television series and movies are totally new to me. And, more interesting.

Like Richard wrote, perfection is unattainable. And I'm sure that the pursuit of perfection can drive one crazy, even while one's work is superlative in every way. For some, perfection comes easy like the perfect baby born to imperfect parents. But nature has been working on perfection much longer and much more successfully by weeding out the bad. We don't have, in our single lifetime, the luxury of doing that. We have to be lucky to be perfect.

The "idea" indeed. Certainly perfection is unattainable for humans, but if we chase perfection we can sometimes catch excellence. Sometimes. As you connote: Perfection cannot be defined or seen, it can only be found in your heart. Interesting thoughts. r
