This is a wonderful and heart touching book. I enjoyed every page. The characters were so real and endearing. The slice of life plot was outstanding.

From your excerpt, this looks to be a romance novel. But it certainly could be also a novel showing us, today, how difficult it was for people from two economic backgrounds, even of the basic heritage, European, had it during the early part of the twentieth century and being accepted by society. Showing us that our problems today are similar and have not changed all that much. Or not. There is not enough of the book here to make any definitive conclusion about that.
But I do hope this book does have a lesson for the reader to learn about how perseverance and love overcomes even the greatest obstacles.

modern technology is a marvel!!
our ancestors often moved as a herd, or realized they might never see loved ones again...
I do genealogy and wonder how folks said good byes without simply sitting and wailing
and now living in the middle of our continent with one kid on the east coast, siblings and others on the west coast
am eternally grateful for the minds who provide so many ways for US to keep in touch

I haven't lived close to any blood-tied family for decades, and have thought at times that both sad and yet todays normal. keeping close ties is harder for some when there is less and less physical contact, that is sadder yet. Thank you for your writing this.

With job opportunity and transportation, and with constant communication through all the media devices, holidays certainly aren't the same as they were, just 20 years ago. My family has been widespread for over 30 years, so getting together has become harder and harder. We still are close, primarily through email rather than texting or FaceTime, Skype, etc.
