Your story seems typical of writers who are picked up by publishers. You have worked very hard to perfect your craft and learned from your mistakes. Done what is necessary to get published. You haven't just written a book and then expected it to be picked up by a publisher without any effort.
And, you have provided a formula that we all can use as we write our stories. The four unique characteristics make a lot of sense to me when I read stories (sometimes published) that don't come to a satisfactory conclusion. As if ending in the middle of things is enough for the reader to figure out what's going to happen after the story. And, I find that people often can't create unique characters, but they clone best-selling characters. The originals are much better the ones they are writing about. A formula not to succeed.

Ron,
You bring up an important point. Unless you're an illustrator-writer, you don't have to be concerned with creating pictures for a children's book. The publishing house will find an artist for your work. That said, when writing a children's book, one should think in terms of scenes that will lend themselves to illustration. A scene should have action words which gives the illustrator a way to begin sketching characters. Thank you for relating your struggles with getting your picture book published. To me, the hardest part is the illustrations. Makes me wonder if you drew them or you have someone else draw them for you to match the words that you wrote.
