I'm fully in agreement with you that where we've been is less important than where we are going. But, it would've been nice if you had shown some of the progress on your way that is shown in your bio.
I have found that aging authors tend to focus on where they've been as a way of explaining how they got to where they are at the at the end of their lives.

Lost in a lost pool of hopelessness. Alcohol, how many families has it destroyed? It almost took mine a long, long time ago. Never again!

This is a tragedy that repeats and repeats and repeats.
I was caught up in it once, and I can never repair the damage.
At a minimum we should never mistake a drunk for a hunk.

One would do well to teach young women to avoid such scoundrels. But for some reason, women are attracted to them, only to fall into the trap of abuse that both weak men and strong alcohol bring.
Your poem, if it gets these men to think, is a winner.

Alcohol has burdened society in many ways, but it's a legal drug, just like tobacco.

You have visions of sexual aberration that are probably part of sexual taboos. For where there are taboos, there are usually aberrations to those taboos.
That's why everyone needs openness and sexual liberation/understanding. With free expression of sexual desires and how to deal with them, atrocities like this will go away and the blood that flows will be only that of love, kindness and a positive life for everyone.
