I believe you are stating that you have a positive attitude. And yet you realize that sometimes a proposition, like a bicycle, needs something to prop it up.

A really great metaphor for missing out even when we try our best.
In real life I have aimed for a nail (metal) and missed, hitting the nail on my finger, causing great pain. Within a day, the nail will turn black underneath from dried blood, and then it will fall off, leaving me without a fingernail. It will then take several months to grow back in before I can hit it with a hammer again. ;-)
