One of the underlying stories the reader gets a glimpse of in the first pages involve Mr. Miller. I had hoped the story would not evolve to the conclusion I was starting to see...
The author has a remarkable gift of writing events as a person imagines themselves in this wilderness.
Recommend this story for pre-teen to adult readers especially those who want to counsel young people.
The relationship of a 23 year old woman and a 13 year old boy does need to be addressed and while it was innocent; had me thinking they were living in a make-believe time and place. Suffice it to say it gave me pause as a parent.
The author has a great sense of compassion in explaining how two children handled a life-altering event and how it affected the family going forward.
The main story follows one family's vacation in the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota and the benefit this area will have on David now and later in life. As told by thirteen year old David, and the adventures he has after meeting 23 year old neighbor, Jill.
Writing a book from a thirteen year old boy's point of view is enlightening. The reader is swept into David's adventures and this story from Page 1.
While every human should be content where they reside--for some it is imperative they find that place that rejuvenates their soul. The Boundary Waters is that place for many.

LOIS TO THE RESCUE by CAROL HEGBERG is a nifty little take-anywhere chapter book/coloring book with easy to color black and white illustrations. The covers, front and back, are very colorful and eye-catching. Carol's choice of font is easy to read with large illustrations on the opposite pages. The book is the perfect child's companion for that short one hour trip.
Lois is a cute polite ten-year-old girl on a mission. She cares deeply about her friends and neighbors, especially Miss Goldie. Sadly, Miss Goldie has lost her cat, Morris. That darn cat, where is he? Miss Goldie is too old to look high and low for Morris so Lois is determined to find Morris for her friend. Lois has several adventures as she searches for Morris. This was a cute little chapter book for your young reader. I liked Lois's relationship with Miss Goldie. It was nice of her to find out what happened to Morris when he came missing. The chapters are short and will hold your child's attention. This is a good book to keep them entertained on a car trip. The book's illustrations are done so your child can use this book as a coloring book. They can make the scenes their own by coloring them the way they want to. A cute book.

Your poem reminded me of the amazement I feel when I grab a prescription description and read about the possible side effect of different drugs. Makes one wonder when we even bother to rely on any. I hear you. This is an exceptional piece of prose offering heartfelt questions that are both thought-provoking and inspiring. Inspiring in that when you read these words, you will have to spend some time in self evaluation or introspection. I try not to live with regret but how I'd love to have a chance to do things differently and better. Wrong? I don't know. I think it is human.
