Recent Reviews for Guenevere Lee

Orope - the White Snake (Book) - 4/3/2018 12:15:42 PM
“Orope The White Snake,” the debut historical fiction novel of Guenevere Lee, transports us to the Bronze Age, fleshing out Egyptian-like lands, blood-thirsty customs and god-like kings and queens. Lee does an admirable job of creating this world, bringing to life three characters who are chosen to complete a seemingly impossible task of trying to appease the gods. Every chapter is illustrated with ancient-looking maps, showing their path. The characters take on this task and venture to unknown lands, and the reader is left at end begging to know where the tale will lead next. Fortunately, a companion book to “Orope,” - “Pekari – the Azure Fish” continues the story, and is in the works.
Chaos (Short Story) - 1/23/2018 1:19:24 PM
Well I had trouble connecting the characters, I got the jest of what you were writing about, a dystopia future that resulted from a third world war. I sense there is some satire related to the numbing of everyone by drugs so that everyone lives in a censored, bland existence with realism favored over any fantasy or otherwise, wild, thoughts. The action and was also quite difficult for me to follow. However, I did relate to the dreams because I've been actually having dreams like that waking me up in the night believing that things are happening when they aren't. I have seen cuts and bleeding on my hands that weren't there as well as falling out of bed and crushing things when I turn under my body (I can't turn myself, someone else has to turn me). So I related to what Ardis was experiencing quite well. I also take drugs for spasms, not to calm my mind and prevent me from feeling any pain. Saw a couple of typos, but otherwise it was well composed. "There" should have been their room. Ron

well written

Beowulf (and the Other Sister) (Short Story) - 1/22/2018 11:21:56 AM
I haven't read Beowulf, and I doubt if I ever will. It looks like you taken on quite a subject to write about, especially going back to when the epic poem was written. I like historical fiction, and so far, from what I've read you are making a great deal of effort to make your tale historically accurate. I see that you have titled the book, Beowulf: A Poet's Tale. That is good because it will separate your book from all the others using the same title. I was warned about that by my publisher. Without a unique title anyone searching "Beowulf" will not find your book because of all the other places where it is found. Ron

Falling (Poetry) - 1/26/2018 7:59:56 AM
It certainly is easy to fall for someone else over expectations that may not be true. But when someone seems sincere in declaring love, and then betrays that sincerity, it certainly is "a little death." But it may also be a learning experience leading to a better life afterword. As we grow older and are more experienced, we don't fall as easily or get hurt so much when our expectations are not met. By using that phrase at the end, I think you really felt the knife of betrayal and actually thought it would be your death. The poem was a kind of suicide note that fortunately, you had the strength to not carry out. But we readers seem to love unrequited love from Romeo and Juliet onward. We can't seem to get enough of betrayal pain and misery as long as it doesn't happen to us. ;-) Ron

Loved this new posting very much, I'm with John on the early passages, but people do die, all of us, so why hide that fact. This is a fantastic bit of writing.

I really like the beginning and the body of this poem. I think the end should say, "I nearly died" because gratefully you are still with us. Then I would enjoy it more knowing that. You know what I mean? OK

I very much like your dark style, Guenevere Lee. I used to write similar, but don't anymore. At least not much.
