I agree with two of your professional (?) reviewers. The science certainly is, "a bit daft." From what I'm reading, the genre, horror, or even action/thriller seems to be a more appropriate for what you are describing. The idea that some experiment in a lab can bring about another dimension is totally unscientific to me. Although I believe that even Tesla was building devices that could do some strange and unbelievable things.
You start off with your heroes making their way through the "sky." And then, they are walking on a trail. I'm missing something in the meantime. And then, there is one wrong word (much better than I do) where you say, "… back as[at] square one."
