I read your excerpt with interest. A young eight-year-old view of the world from rural to big-city. While there certainly were stories heard that were questioned as to whether they were true or not, I detected little fantasy in this youthful fiction that parallels real life so well. While not my growing up, that I'm currently writing in my latest book, Midcentury Tales: Unfettered Youth, it certainly is reminiscent of growing up of many Midwesterners like you and me. I sense that much of Will is really a reflection of your youth.
You have great reviews, so I believe that you are on a very good track. I like your titles--very creative.
