Like the driving premise of your "Beautiful Detour: An Unthinkable Journey from Gutless to Grateful." I don't think too many people would find any kind of parallels of literary value between gutlessness and gratitude so that in itself, I feel, is quite brilliant. I have a forthcoming title in which I compare detours in my life with those in the lives of several other influential authors but I find your approach very intriguing. Nice TED Talk too. Thanks for sharing it.

I agree with you on "training." When it comes to art or literature, creativity tends to be an inborn talent that we have. However, we can improve our art by studying under masters. For example, a man with the skills of a Paul Revere silversmith artistry taught me how to do renderings with oil pencils on construction paper. I would've never been able to do it without his simple guidance. And of course, practice makes perfect.
You quoted some of my favorite artists. In the past 20 years I have collected only art from disabled artists. Some are museum quality. I found my disability, paralyzed hands, to be somewhat of a hindrance to art, and computers somewhat of a help.
