I'm surprised that you called this short fiction, Science Fiction. Unless you meant that there was a science involved in blaming Mayya for what was considered so bad.
What you wrote is so much historical fiction where young women were accused of witchcraft and hung or burned on the stake as punishment for evil ways. It was a lynching for sure because she did not have a trial. The scenario you wrote, is, unfortunately the way that many young women were treated in the past if they dared to step outside the boundaries strictly controlled by men.

This essay should be in Articles, but I read it and agree with what you are writing. I grew up in a bad neighborhood where street smarts were valued for those on a pathway to prison. Like you, I stuck to the books and didn't rely on opinion to carry me without an education behind it.
Unfortunately, there are people that come from the streets and become CEOs of companies. But once again, I can assure you from experience, that the higher echelons of, the military, private enterprise, government, religion and academia are filled with sociopathic followers of Machiavelli. All wishing to get ahead in their egotistical minds, by stepping on all of those below them until they reach the top and implode.

Some good points. We are all shades of color. DNA can provide our origin going back thousands, if not millions of years. Separating the races no longer makes much sense except for benefits that come to some racial groups according to taxes and other incentives to improve their lives. Otherwise, no real need to discriminate between people except maybe country of citizenship and country of origin… Proof of citizenship.
You have every right to be upset with all of the misinformation going around. Psychologists have learned that people tend towards the light and find the dark (like night) disturbing.
