Now I know why haven't watched RuPaul's Drag Show. But I do recall the New Year's night celebration where my wife wore her mother's black Christian Dior gown that fit her perfectly. She was wearing death, but my ex-wife was very much alive until I couldn't afford her anymore.
Indenting the paragraphs would make it a little easier to read. Otherwise the story was well-written and the surprise ending was a nice twist. But, I've never been attracted to stories like this even though I enjoyed whatever Allan Poe wrote. It's just not my cup of tea. Based on what you wrote I believe you have a large following of people who like this kind of genre.

Shades of Halloween!! Your poem certainly makes ones skin crawl. Makes one wonder just exactly what this insidious worm under the skin is. Is it a lie, a yearning, and addiction or something else? Only the poet knows.
It fits the Halloween category very well.
