ghosts on the corner (revised) (Poetry) - 2/21/2007 6:10:05 PM
Poetry isn't about rymes or lyrics, it doesn't have to be words, it doesn't even have to make sense. Poetry is the feeling you feel when you write what you write. That is what's displayed here, that's what makes this good. As far as the getto, I was raised in Inglewood in CA and Fresno, and many other miserable places and all I can say is that, the things you go through there condition you to believe you can't get anywhere else. You live there, you'll die there. It's tough to get through them thoughts.
Nice write.

hole. (Poetry) - 2/20/2007 8:48:33 AM
There will always be misery around us and in us. In this world there will be tribulation and suffering. At times it seems the world, and its hoards, is sliding down a waterslide laced with razor blades.
Your write is despondent, almost debilitatingly so, but it reeks with poetic insight. I suggest another hole where the Light of Truth can offset the daily misery and fill the soul with hope.
Light and Wisdom ...

You break my heart, reminding me of my dear uncle George and his unconditional love. Hector lives in this poem as vividly as he lives in your heart-so strong is the imagery. How fortunate you were to have his loving presence. Serenity and acceptence-this was his gift to you. Very fine, Alexandre...

soon... (Poetry) - 5/24/2006 1:56:08 AM
I like REM's lyric, "It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine". No birth comes without a lot of pain. Outwardly, or inwardly as Jerry alludes to. I see outmoded structures and systems that will be destroyed-by force if history serves as a lesson. But I also can see to the other side. A good analogy is the destruction of Mt. St. Helens and the new life that is in the area now. A dead lake of acid sulpher that now holds fish. A black and flattened landscape that is a new forest. "i walk the pale hours of the dead/i bleed hot mercury in my room/i wail in jets of black cancer.." WOW. This may be personal but it has so many parallels to the world at large. Prophetic, I think. Powerful write!

I have to tell you, I rarely read long poems such as this. Mostly because the writer loses my interest after the first couple of stanzas. But this poem...man this poem was spiritual. It was so real, as if I was in your mind, as if the lines were being scribed as I was reading them. Very cool.
Now, the world is dirty. But it isn't just us humans. All of life lays their waste on top of other's waste, or their scent onto all other scents. Yes, it is gross, but true.

Let the good times roll...ahh, they will live forever in our memories. It is with a deep sadness that we realize that New Orleans and all its rich history has been wiped away in one swipe of nature's hand. In hindsight, I wonder how many would have voted for the bonds to upgrade their levees and better protect their city from the flooding? We all tempt fate and hope to stay one step in front of the Devil. This time the people who called New Orleans their home lost that bet. Even without the flooding, the city would still not be livable. It is all so very sad. This is a GREAT poem, Alexandre, peppered with the spirit of the city known as "The Big Easy which has now perished.
Take care,

I have to tell you this, A.--when I found your den it was like finding a cigar box full of bills in grandma's attic. Please keep writing and please seek to publish. I will miss you! Love, Lin

Alex,
Quit this, if you must, but never cease to tell your tales. They are the gritty urban drum that moves us forward and accurately echoes the pulse of the common man. I will miss reading you, but I will sate myself knowing that your words are still flowing...
Peace in all things!

This should be printed and framed, saved for this young lady as she grows...perfectly beautiful, Alex...(I didn't know there was a poetry chat room on AOL, guess I never thought to look) Peace, Ed & Rufuz

migraine (Poetry) - 8/16/2005 4:46:09 AM
That just about eexplains the torment of a migraine as well as I have ever read. Good.
migraine (Poetry) - 8/16/2005 12:01:23 AM
well done though this is a description of a malady that totally un-does a person. you captured it well, this evil beast.
migraine (Poetry) - 8/15/2005 10:06:25 PM
Hard to write anything when a migraine takes over you...I get this little "aura", closest thing to a flashback, just before I get a migraine, and it gives me warning of things to come...time to pop as many pain killers as I can stand and go to bed, unless I am working, then it is very hard to deal with...hope it went away fast...Ed
un becoming (the sum of my parts) (Poetry) - 8/15/2005 11:23:01 AM
Excellent! Your writings are always unique, insightful, rich and thought provoking.
un becoming (the sum of my parts) (Poetry) - 8/13/2005 11:10:54 PM
Akexandre, I think this one is one of your best ones yet! So profound and descriptive of your sentiments and dreams! You are indeed more than it meets the ye and much more than the "by 33 years of 33 years."
God bless, Alexandre!
Sandie.
un becoming (the sum of my parts) (Poetry) - 8/13/2005 9:33:14 AM
Alex,
Damn man! You are such a truthsayer. I have long labored to express this sentiment and fall far short of this. You have a clarity that is only prevelant in a slight few. I'm glad I'm in a world where I can read your thoughts....
Peace,
B
un becoming (the sum of my parts) (Poetry) - 8/11/2005 9:56:27 AM
excellent ... esp. the line "forever soured
by 33 years
of 33 years" supremely simplistic way of saying/describing an awful lot, and an awful lot that anyone can relate to simply by reworking the numbers to describe themselves.
un becoming (the sum of my parts) (Poetry) - 8/11/2005 8:03:17 AM
Too 33 add another 33 and then rethink the herein position...I think you may find you are in pretty damn good shape...Ed
un becoming (the sum of my parts) (Poetry) - 8/11/2005 8:01:18 AM
alexandre you are a joy, to read, to contemplate...well look at all the wonderful fantasies that you've provided me with no effort on your part at all...you are indeed more than the sum of all your parts. :}

I hurt when I read your words. I checked your profile, and saw that you read the Psalms. I too enjoy them. In fact, I love the whole book. I had hope in the ending of your poem, when you said, "I am more than what I am". It's true, you are so much more than you seem to realize (based on this poem). You are created with a devine purpose and plan for your life. Maybe writing is one of the avenues that will enable you to reach out to people and help someone that has no one. I enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing! Love, Leah

seaside park, nj (five fragments) (Poetry) - 7/31/2005 6:17:10 PM
And then there are Pennsylvania drivers that have never heard of the law, "KEEP RIGHT, PASS LEFT", (not drive in the same left lane from PA to the NJ shore...) And Seaside is NOT a fair representation of the NJ shoreline, head south to Ocean City, or to the Wildwoods or Cape May, all three have better beaches and no drop off into a deep gully just 10 feet from the beach...beyond that, Alex, I liked all your descriptions, but of course what does someone from PA know about driving anyway...LOL! Ed
for ariana (Poetry) - 7/29/2005 11:25:01 PM

And with her daddy standing proudly beside her, watching her grow, I have no doubt she will shine. A most beautiful, inspirational write of unconditional love. :) Thank you, Poet!

Lololol ... I was beginning to wonder - which African city was this?! Great one, Alexandre!
God bless,

the elephant (Poetry) - 7/26/2005 3:06:27 PM
Alex,
The elephant comes to life in your vivid descriptive words; beautifully told, captivating from beginning to end, you are a master storyteller!
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)
the elephant (Poetry) - 7/26/2005 4:46:43 AM
Well, yes, the darn thing cann go wherever he wants to go. I have found out over many years of watching the "nature" channels that elephants have a very sensitive nature about them, even to the mourning of their dead. Good prose.
the elephant (Poetry) - 7/26/2005 4:19:12 AM
Heehee! Wonderful picture! I imagine that the elephant had a good stroll of through the streets.
I sometimes wonder why people are alarmed when animals stroll the streets; they aren't alarmed with we, the humans, stroll in the zoo.
They are more tolerant than us.

the elephant (Poetry) - 7/26/2005 1:46:15 AM
Cool pic, sort of puts me in mind of my ex-mother-in-law, though she breathed fire and her eyes were always red, but beyond that the tusks look about the same size...;) Ed
the elephant (Poetry) - 7/26/2005 12:48:27 AM
Wonderful poem. I liked the story

the sinner (Poetry) - 7/22/2005 9:13:55 PM
As Jerry said regards unsettling the mind and sanity, I have always been unsettled with regards both, so this poem is just kinda fun for me...;) Ed

Profoundly moving, shattering write--you aren't alone in feeling like g*d doesn't listen. :(

Sad write. You have to forgive yourself first. God is always there for you.

the sinner (Poetry) - 7/22/2005 3:06:45 AM
Heavy (a little sixties' slang) poem, here, annd one that I can sink my teeth into. Poe-ish around the edges but truly your own creation and one that unsettles the mind and sanity of the reader. VERY good.
subhumanfilthbreed (for stephanie mcmullen) (Poetry) - 7/18/2005 1:58:33 PM
Alex,
Why not do the same thing to her as she did to her son? God, how awful. Why are these women (I refuse to call them mothers) having children, only to abuse them and worse?? Sick, sick, sick...
Thank you for having the courage to face the ugliness running amok in society...and for forcing us to confront the demons in control. Shattering write--effectively penned.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
"all this and more
all this and more" how about, NEVER MORE!!!?????????
subhumanfilthbreed (for stephanie mcmullen) (Poetry) - 7/17/2005 8:54:12 PM
emotionally potent ... hopefully, the media has it wrong ... if not, what a totally repugnant act to do to anyone, especially to one's own child ...
subhumanfilthbreed (for stephanie mcmullen) (Poetry) - 7/17/2005 4:53:54 PM
That was raw, pure hatred. The opening paragraph, where you tell us what this wretched woman did, reviled me to think that someone could do that to anyone, let alone their own child. The poem reached right into my head and pulled out all of the things I was feeling. ~ Sara
subhumanfilthbreed (for stephanie mcmullen) (Poetry) - 7/17/2005 6:17:11 AM
A poet needs to make his audience feel what he's feeling; the emotion MUST transfer from the page to the mind. It's that whole "show versus tell" thing. You, sir, are very successful with this piece. Whether she 's guilty or not, I'm able to "feel" your rage and for that I am applauding your work. Excellent!
subhumanfilthbreed (for stephanie mcmullen) (Poetry) - 7/17/2005 3:06:49 AM
This is not a time to hold back your thoughts on the matter. Only when you completely explain how you feel about this woman will you feel better. So, come on, say what's on your mind.
subhumanfilthbreed (for stephanie mcmullen) (Poetry) - 7/16/2005 11:43:12 PM
Whoa, Alexandre! Such a rage! You portrayed what you are feeling so well!! Its so sad that a mother can go to such an extend to get rid of her own flesh and blood! Whatever made her commit such an inhuman deed?!
God bless, Alexandre!
Sandie.
subhumanfilthbreed (for stephanie mcmullen) (Poetry) - 7/16/2005 9:51:34 PM

Yep. I relate one hundred percent with this one.
napolean (Poetry) - 7/12/2005 3:37:01 AM
I don't know if it's the breed or not, but I think 14 years is a short life for a dog; but I wouldn't call my beloved dog "stupid" though.

homeland security (the fight against terrorism) (Poetry) - 7/11/2005 4:00:42 PM

Bold. Fresh. Real. Honest emotions borne from pain. What can we do as the HUMAN race to stop the madness and senseless slaughter of our brothers and sisters by fanatical extremists of ANY religion?
