Good story. We all suffer from some kind of addiction and, yes, some are worse than others: socially, medically, or in familial, but they all hurt somehow -- sooner or later. Once our self-esteem is gone it really doesn’t matter why. I’m a recovering workaholic, recovering Catholic, among other things. Keep up the good work – both of you!!

Excellent...brings to mind my own struggles with addictions... Your Daughter is very honest and very upfront about her emotions in this matter just as you are. I hope you continue on your road to recovery just as I do. There is always light in the darkness, sometimes you have to squint very hard to see it...but it is there.

You've written a very extensive and honest article about this problem and it will be very useful to me in my counselling sessions among families (particularly children/teens) who have alcoholic members.

Excellent article! - wish I could get a few of my family members to understand it. - but then, it took me awhile to get the point, too. That focus on 'just give me a drink to get through this' is well worth taking seriously. It's called Denial.
I love your bio - 'Out There'. The truth is sooooo good.
I'd love to share an article of mine on same subject with you: "In Blessed Company". I was lucky: early stages.

One very simple question made me realize that I was a drunk. My future sponsor, asked me what my definition of alcoholism was. I gave a really long answer. He shook his head and said, if your drinking shed one tear, then you are an alcoholic. Right then it hit me, that alcohol was suppose to be "fun." If that was the case, why was everyone around me so miserable? People around me, shed enough tears to fill many 5 gallon buckets. That night, 10 plus years ago, I had my last drink. Sometimes, facts and figures don't work as good as a cold slap in the face...
