There is life after death and your story happens to many of us - and we cannot understand them but they do happen. I had the same experience with my brother and i know God had a purpose for giving him a second chance at life... to receive Jesus Christ in his heart before his 2nd death.

This is a GREAT story. I know some things - we cannot see hate and we cannot see love but we know that they are with us and these feelings profoundly influence our lives. Who are we to think that everything that is real must be seen? We have proof that this is NOT true but sometimes we are blind to see that God's real plan in our lives is truly invisible to our naked eyes! I guess that is why God provided us with a Bible to help us see truth in plain English. Still, some rather go though life being blind. Amen!

Some good advice. You are right, I did not choose my parents. Fortunately, they were young and they were not bigoted, but spent their entire lives among similar people from the same area and picked up their values and their way of living. Their lives were long and basically uncontroversial. They had many friends and enjoyed a very long retirement of playing games: golf, bowling, softball, fishing, some travel… All at a leisurely pace. They use their assets to live on until they were quite old. They were conspicuous consumers, constantly buying new things and throwing out the old.
They gave me the gift of thrift and the gift of openness to new ideas. From that I learned how to be very frugal and yet live well while limiting my use of resources. I'm giving away much of the wealth that I have saved. I'm very interested in saving the wild parts of our world that do not deserve to be exploited and destroyed just to make my life better than my parents had. I don't want to leave a dirty nest for my great nieces and nephews to have to endure and clean up.

A very honest and personal view of your view of your faith. In almost every war, God is on the side of both combatants. When one side wins, is God on their side?
I personally find that taking responsibility for my own life and using ethical practices that are generally defined as "good" rather than "bad," is enough baggage for me. Carrying around a Bible for reference and guidance all the time, is a crutch I don't want to carry.

It is obvious that your people oriented profession has allowed you to come to these beautiful conclusions about how people deal with life-changing events. Faith, hope, belief and love. These are universal traits that we all have innately. We just have to use them.
Like many, I have had my share of life-changing events. But I always had an inner strength and self-confidence that allowed me to overcome those speed bumps in life. But when I became depressed because others did not treat me well anymore, I found that my inner strength was more powerful than religion and left it for self-reliance rather than reliance on others and their dogmatic view of religious rituals like praying or meditation. I have experienced personal miracles without praying for them. I chalked these miracles up as lucky breaks, good karma, or serendipity. For someone to pray for something and it happens, isn't a miracle, it's an unlikely event that occasionally happens.

Jesus' teachings will give you the strength to be honest even if there is no one watching you. To tell the truth regardless of a negative consequence to you personally. Fewer and fewer young people get the lessons from the farm like you did.. As a city dweller, I was able to avoid those awful "chores" that farm kids had to do, especially milking cows on time twice a day seven days a week without any vacations. That lack of freedom, set farm children back in school, but made them more resourceful in life with a deep understanding of animals that you have described in your poem.
In your discussion on life and death, all of our measures to try to alleviate human death in this pandemic, may have been for naught. The virus will have its way, anyway, and the measures have disrupted our lives so badly, that we are experiencing anger and violence.

Most families today do not have someone they lost. And the number of families who do, gets fewer all the time as those that remember the tremendous loss of WWII are gone. Isn't that wonderful?
It should mean that more of us can now focus on the survivors of recent wars and put more time and money into helping them overcome their demons and in war altogether. Stop making it heroic.

I just read my twin brother's auto-biography about his cars. When he wrote about the troubles I had with our cars in our teenage years, I had forgotten all the scrapes my father got us out of by being there as a strong figure to overcome the stuff we got into.
Having read that, I don't envy your position as the eldest (I am the eldest as the dominant twin) without a father to back you up. I know your mother stuck up for you whenever she could, but a father can have some real clout.
Your brothers are going to love this.

Amen! I look for the signs everyday and I have been blessed with ability, however slight, to see some things before they come. I wondered why GOD forgot me...I wondered why HE did not heed my suplications as I lay upon my face pleading that HE take me, and not her. I wondered whjere did GOD go?
