Thomas, how did I miss this before? I am laughing so hard, what a great essay on food. I believe I would whither away in despair if I could not have bacon with my eggs (all fried) and peanutbutter with my jelly (grilled PBJs are lovely too).
In truth, all food is better when fried (have you ever had fried ice cream? mmmm!)
I'm glad I was roaming around this evening on my favorite AD writer's sites and found this. It's a gem, and it made my evening. :o)

LOL I would be terrible as a sports annoncer......Hockey is about all I know and what I know could fill one sentence..maybe.....Hockey I believe is becoming a religion. Have you heard about the parties when the teams are winning and oh my the silence and anger if they don't? Yes sports people take their sports quite seriously. I see this in the store I work in. A person from the United States came in to buy some groceries and I was amused as I heard all the customers talking about the game that night........I turned to the United State customer and said, "Can you tell your in Canada?" LOL. He laughed too :-) Thanks for sharing your exprience.

Funny stuff! I've got a character in a book I'm writing who draws pictures of hurricanes based on their names. For example, Andrew was a prep-school kid who had been teased by too many bullies. I was in the path of Floyd, had he decided to come ashore, but that's my grandfather's name, so I had a hard time feeling threatened. Yes, I think they should pick more threatening-sounding names. Some of these sound like hurricanes that should be in nursing homes. Hurricane Joyce? Look out!

The humor of Ode to the Hoover hog, won me riches!! I live in close proximity to Cripple Creek, Colorado, an old gold mining town turned casino town. Burros, modern-day descendants of the miners gold-packing burros roam the streets of Cripple Creek freely, as the town owns the donkeys who rest in people's front yards and on the sidewalks in front of the casinos...of which I frequent. I am a gambler! And a drinker of fine wine and whiskey as the madames, (themes of the casinos to include the leftover whorehouses) bar girls well know and keep my brand within reach. Not too long ago, I was playing TEXAS OIL slot machines. I lined up five armadillos for a friggin' whopping amount! They've got my vote to do just about anything they want, except blocking my winding mountain road up to Cripple Creek!!! Great article, Sonny! Count Sage Sweetwater an armadillo lover!

This is a wonderful bit of nostalgia, Sonny...I can smell the 17-year-old newsprint of your columns. For your dad to have seen these men after 40 years had to be such an emotional reunion. Old Warriors is a piece of history and the camraderie between these gentleman makes us aware of how they counted on one another to keep their sanity and also keep them alive. It's stories like Old Warriors that need to be kept alive and passed on to future generations. It's nice that your mother and father saved them and then you have reacqainted yourself with your own columns. You're right, it is timely with all that is going on in our world today. Your note at the bottom of the article, well, I guess history has repeated itself a few times over...the blood and guts of war and timeless, yellowed newsprint. A remindful article, Sonny, thanks for sharing...

Nostalgic in NEON and white jumpsuit flashlight ticket attendants here, Sonny! I remember as a little girl in the 60s, going to the drive-ins, then maturing into the 70s. It was such a keen thing to do and I have many fond memories. Shows like Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, Easyriders, The Graduate (yes I watched it!) The Dutchess and the Dirtwater Fox (some scenes filmed near my home) The Cowboys, Electra Glide In Blue, The Wild Ones, East of Eden, Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof!! Can't get much better than that! We popped our own corn and put it in a big brown grocery bag and took a case of Shasta canned sodas, threw in some blankets and pillows and some 3-D glasses just in case there was a 3-D flick. Drive-ins are a dying breed. We have one within 30 miles of where I live now, just one, but one is all you need! Where slow and steady still wins out over fast and electronic! It was a sad day when I saw the huge concrete screen being demolished by a wrecking ball to make way for the big AutoPlex...ironic...selling cars that can't go to the drive-in. Good summer fun memories, Sonny...keepin' it alive to pass on to future generations of Kid Rock fans and J LO and Brittany, no comparison to John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Elizabeth Taylor, Burl Ives, Peter Fonda, Goldie Hawn, Dustin Hoffman, Marlon Brando, James Dean, those were the great drive-in kings and queens of tinseltown!

Sonny, this was fun to read. You're right though, I might not be afraid of Hurricane Sonny...But I might head for the hills if Hurricane Cher blew through. :o)

Sorry for your loss. I remember the year my dad died. Every Hallmark card looked like a billboard that screamed I didn't have a dad any more. But I soon realized my dad is still with me. That's the nice part about moms and dads, even though we can't see them, they're always close by.
