Sylvia this is a very deep poem of self introspection and thought. It gave me some things to think about too in my life having survived a major non-crippling stroke that has left my right side very weak; a heart attack, and a vtach. But I have faith that the Lord is with me and will be there when I call on him to help with whatever I cannot do alone. Thank you for sharing Sylvia, and I will keep you in my prayers.

Dear Sylvia
It has long since been established by the minority that all we call life is co-dependency. And, that the state of independence awaits when we 'die'. An easy equation but we need to offer more than the worn out stance of constantly pointing to the obvious as if its a new revelation. Good poem but we need to go deeper.

Nothing rhymes with orange as I know you know, it is perfectly shaped , orange in colour until eaten.
We all get eaten away in due course. Like the Orange we bloom in youth but dry and fade but in doing so we set the seed for others to follow. Marvel at the orange bright green on the tree before it is picked. Then see it turn orange and enter the marmalade mincer. Without it no trully great breakfast.
Lovingly we cut the orange and enjoy its freshness, its sweetness, its vitamins and its roughage. Then we compost it to regrow in due course feeding other life.
And so it is with humans. Sylvia I pray you are not suffering too much. Smile and let the world see the fresh orange that you are.

So true - People (especially women) saved everything because they were so deprived. You would have had to live thru the depression to understand what impression that left on the mind. And yes, the people were negative having a hard time to let go of bad feelings as well as material things. Now we are coming out of that. Is it better; I think not. Now life is too fast, less love and compassion, no time for listening, for giving, just no time, period. The values are different. Are better? No--We believed in mariage being forever. The young live together so it is easier to end it. I presume. The old way was hard but this is worse. All this causes much heart-ache especially to their children. Marguerite

Thank you Richard, but this is a personal experience only insofar
that I had an ectomy of my own, in my case, my colon.But I wanted to write from the perspective of the person who stands by the loved one,
and explore the dept it takes even for the one going through it
"in"-directly. Due to my own cancer experience I have met many women
who's lifes have been impacted by an ectomy that is visible or enabled
them from procreation,I have written this poem to honor the men who stood by them.
