A well thought out comment on poetry. I agree most with the discussion about free verse. You are spot on with your description of it.
However, I find that those that deviate far from any form or norm in their poetry stand the chance of disconnecting from their audience. While critics looking for new expression and uniqueness may give the two pieces you've offered here high marks for originality and creativity, they do not speak to me especially when they're not true to nature, but merely fanciful or diametrically opposite.
I have found that the only poetry that makes any sense at all is the poetry that has a line, a phrase, or some thought that many, many can relate to. These words are then often repeated and the work eventually becomes part of the language, never to be forgotten. I wonder how many "contest winners" lie published in anthologies collecting dust or be recycled for their paper, never to be heard from again.
"To be or not to be" is the question. And a line like that, is, and will always be.
