Yes, I would have to agree with this pessimistic view of our future unless we can steer that addiction to mind in a direction that recognizes the problem (6 Billion humans and growing, what I call compound human propagation (CHP)) and implements social policies to incentivise the numbers downward.

Exceptional analysis, Brock. It is unusual to have the ambiguosity of "what is" laid out in such clear terms. I think that humanity is growing up, gradually shedding the grasping mental inventions of its childhood and maturing into a society that can accept reality on more nearly equal terms than it could in the centuries of its infancy.
The "Jesus Question" is probably more generally stated as the question of mortality. The great blessing of evolving an intelligent brain was offset by its realizing that death is the final result of not just all life, but of each life, including "my own" life.
Humanity has now begun to accept that there are no escape hatches from death (such as Jesus), nor does there need to be. We can be content, as you say, with enjoying the incredible good luck of being sentient for any time at all in this physical universe and living life to its fullest. There is such an incredibly vast number of unrealized potential human beings who can't make that claim. We won the universe life lottery. We shouldn't be so arrogant as to demand an escape hatch from the inevitable result of winning.

Very thoughtful analysis. You are quite correct that most of us have a very good life. It puzzles me to know why there are so many who feel that they must also enjoy eternal life in the hereafter, when just being sentient for 60 odd years has been such a privilege. Christians will say that non-believers have no "hope." Perhaps not, but we do have a more realistic acceptance of ourselves as part of teh natural world with a finite existance. Malcolm Watts

The abrupt nature of simple observations quite often is misinterpreted as being hostile, masking an inner tension on the subject.
Modern 'spirituality' hamstrings itself trying make the world peaceful and loving, not wanting to upset anyone. Thus contributing to its impotence as the tide of material empiricism sweeps the world.
If it is upsetting, perhaps it is a truth trying to point out its opposite.

"Jesus was Gay??? Northrop Frye's Interesting Observation" brings up a good picture-discussion to be thought about. It is an excellent article -- written in grand style -- and honoring the English language.
The protagonist in any play will act accordingly with the script. The play may be based on something, be real or just be a fiction. My questions to whoever is concerned are: ON A PLAY, named the BOOK SECOND MATTHEW ("NEW TESTAMENT") the story is based on someone's life? Is it a FICTION? Is it REAL?
I know many people that think that the forest's devastation and the DAMAGES to the Fauna and the Flora only happen because TARZAN is died!
I salute the author of this literary grandiose.

There was a Baptist Preacher named Harold O'Chester who once tainted my reputation in public. He did so by publicly insulting his own daughter by the same name. You see, both his daughter and I were named Jennifer, and we both were daughters of preachers. The next thing that happened was a gay looking electric violinist was moved to the chair next to me in the orchestra. Soon, a few other gay seeming folks entered my life. After a while, I realized that I had become the target of a gay conspiracy.
But I've never been gay. In fact, I never even thought about it before the preacher with the repentant daughter happened upon my unfortunate world.
They are an agressive bunch. Worse than male mashers. And they do have their political agendas.

I think my major qualm with the god of traditional Bible teaching today is the part where he tells Adam and Eve that they have dominion over all the animals. Obviously, they didn't know what that duty required, as we now have persons who are guitly of sin against each other abusing animals with whom they have no ability to communicate. They stick them together without asking, "Will you take this other animal to be your companion for life?" No, the animal gets no say in who will be the parent to it's offspring or whether or not the animal may keep it's own children. Interference, interference, interference!

Christianity, as do other religious constructs, has good things to say for sure, however, the instiution of the church is an economic/political one with its own interests and the meaning of spirtuality has long be subservient to those other needs. Man has reached a point in social evolution where we must move beyond the idea of tribalism and any one religion having the "truth" and everyone else only needs to agree with that. Malcolm Watts

Actually, it is anthropocentrism to believe She does not exist. We believe in the Christian worldview that reality is only (God), humans and inert matter. Humans are still the center of the universe in our eyes. Interesting how we have removed any other possibility of perception. And we bought it hook, line, and sinker.

You raise profound debates and questions. I always refer back to 1 corinthuins 13 where paul talks about love..I try to go by it..I see alot of people in ym church that do not possess the fruits of the spirit..Pauls says~ If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,
it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.

So this is where I try to get the fresh right perspective..There are gifts I have and cannot talk about them with my pastor..So, I know God placed them there for a reason..But I also know the church doesn't have all the answers..They are just earth shepherds and they do not know it all..I feel God loves us, sent His only Son to take on all the stains of the world, backwards and forwards in time He died for us all..There is no church that knows it all or is perfect and we may have spiritual gifts that the church doesn't believe you should have or use..I do not agree with it...I have always been an outsider, never fitting in and having special gifts..Anyway, you raise a powerful doctrinal teaching here..God bless you

You are so right. Religion encourages ignorance.
A very thoughtful article. I find organized religion full of so many devils, it is hard to find Jesus or God in any of them. Seeking the spiritual should be a private matter, not wholesale selling of Jesus or God like a BigMac.

Nice. A Painting of America in the mind. We lok around - what do we see? Everything was created from an idea someone once had. Then they made it a reality. That is what God did with flowers and birds among other things. Life is a mystery we see like and create history.
