The Weary Traveller (Short Story) - 7/6/2007 2:18:23 PM
I love the setting, the name: "Peace and Friendship Lodge", and the description of the child and the woman. All have the texture of reality. The plot twist is a familiar ghost type. There must be a way to spice it up. How about having the waiter be the grown daughter who escaped the fire. That also makes it easy to lead into another story about the daughter's life-- one I'd love to read.

The Weary Traveller (Short Story) - 11/19/2006 7:55:21 PM
This is a variation on a very old story theme.... your trekking life and eye for local colour make it interesting. Cheers, Jim

Myanmar (acrostic) (Poetry) - 9/22/2010 3:29:08 PM
I see well, Anna, why you chose Myanmar for the title because it will never be Burma again until it is free of the horrors of that dictatorship. I was lucky to spend a week there once and the Burmese people (who would ever think of calling them Myanmarese?) were so serene and elegant and giving in their poverty and oppression - what a lesson in dignity that was, a week of real education. Bless you for this poem. John

Sometimes my Heart Wanders (Poetry) - 9/22/2010 3:22:48 PM

Sometimes my Heart Wanders (Poetry) - 2/23/2010 2:58:29 PM
Interesting write. And good to read you again Anna. Just the other day I was talking to a lass from the smoke who was on retreat at the local abbey. She had forgotten how peaceful life outside the city is. As-well-as people actually acknowledged her. Yet up there where the is so much life she felt lonely thinking it's normal to be ignored. Maybe inside your head is seeing the marvelous fields and stunning scenery of good ole Sussex. Be it NY or any crazy city all I want to do is get away PDQ. Except for the few times I've nipped up to the smoke. To watch the mighty Arsenal. Nice juxtapose between heaven and hell. :)

Your imagery awakens the imagination, Anna. Your ending caught me off guard but in a good way. Do you mean "Old apple orchards" in the 19th verse? Fine poetry; thank you for sharing it. Love and best wishes, Regis

Anna, this is a delight! The flow of imagery and rhythm are excellent. In theme, this reminded me greatly of some of the better Beat poetry.

Hopes and Schemes (Poetry) - 8/9/2007 6:17:16 PM
Some remain where they feel it to be safe, yet others dare to live. Imagery is triff yet has a lonesome quality. High class poetry. Pure artistic word pictures..

Excellent write, makes us wonder why God gave them to us sometimes.

Wisdom Teeth Blues (Poetry) - 7/28/2007 3:26:52 AM
Many will empathise with the substance of your muse here. I attended Edinburgh Dental Hospital regularly as a child for gum and teeth correction resulting from a cleft palate. On one occasion the dentist that I needed a tooth removed. He told me to sit still for a moment till he came back. Feering the horrible gas mask, I set about feverishly and tearfully loosening the tooth with my finger and thumb. I had managed to pull it out by the time he returned. I held it up triumphantly in my blooded finger only to receive a stern lecture of the dangers of pulling out your own teeth. Ah well, better that than the gas mask, I reasoned. Like your wee boy, I guess I had also scripted a scowl for dentists some time earlier. Regards Dai

Wisdom Teeth Blues (Poetry) - 7/25/2007 10:42:42 AM

Wisdom Teeth Blues (Poetry) - 7/24/2007 10:49:31 AM

Wisdom Teeth Blues (Poetry) - 7/24/2007 7:51:36 AM
Yikes. The times I said No no no honest my wisdom teeth don't hurt, do they really look sore then.. LOL. I still have them, but that pain is awful whilst it lasts... Guess you're feeling a bit glum, chum. Cheer up you know what they say...De dum...Always look on the bite side of life.. I lost 3 teeth a few weeks back..(don't play french at soccer) the only thing that hurts is the wallet extraction, have the roots removed is nothing compared to the price of new teeth. I used to take my son to the dentists after his first birthday to get him used to sitting in the chair of fun, fun, fun....

Wisdom Teeth Blues (Poetry) - 7/24/2007 6:58:25 AM
Hope you feel better soon. I also still have my impacted wisdom teeth, and so far, they haven't bitten me back.

Wisdom Teeth Blues (Poetry) - 7/23/2007 9:01:38 PM

Dare to portray me? (Poetry) - 1/17/2007 3:37:36 PM
Powerful one Anna. I muse at the thought of seeing myself through someone else's eyes in hopes of goodness coming through...but I am so aware of the type of man who cannot accept the view. This transported me to another time imagerically. Beautifully written, Anna. I look forward to more. xo Taylor

Dare to portray me? (Poetry) - 1/16/2007 4:34:46 AM
A tue artist sees the soul of the person he/she is painting. Which is often a portrait different from his own aspirations. A very wonderful poem. Victor

Dare to portray me? (Poetry) - 1/16/2007 12:03:14 AM
This is excellent. A strong period feel to the tense drama. The second stanza sees the pompous sack-cloth character wrap himself in silk. He luxuriats himself upon a vain, velvet canvas. Then the artist, momentarily invited into his carefully cultured social space, commits the crime of stripping him bare of all conceit. Reminds me of a portrait I was asked to do. The man gave me a picture of his wife. He asked me to alter the nose, the hair, and remove a slight blemish from her chin. I took the finished portrait to their house. A woman answered the door. I had to look twice to recognise her. She was older looking than I anticipated. She did not look like the photo, nor did she look like the finished portrait, but she was thrilled with it. I guess we have an idealised portrait of ourselves that we imagine everyone can see and appreciate. 'Is there another artist among us?' is as good an insight into our psyche of vanities as we'll get.

Dare to portray me? (Poetry) - 1/15/2007 12:00:08 PM
They say a true portrait artist will capture not just the physical characteristics of a person but the very essence of the being, this poem shows the artist has done just that in the pettiness of how he rejected the work. Fee

Dare to portray me? (Poetry) - 1/14/2007 7:06:27 PM
Seeing into the true nature of oneself can be a sobering and frightening experience. How many of us would be repulsed by seeing our own actual graphic image? I remember the Who song Andy refers to ... "Can you see the real me, doctor...doctor?" -Roger Daltry/Peter Townsend This is a well composed view into the psyche of one who wields power while leaving human destruction in his wake. -a fantastic write Anna! ~Butch

Dare to portray me? (Poetry) - 1/14/2007 5:18:45 AM
Vanity, vanity all of him is vanity... OOOO, this is a rather good ekphrastic story in prosetry, the blighter could not bare seeing the real self, the real me as The Who would say, but your way to young to now that one.. Wanting someone to show him his self deception rather than the truth of the real him.. Nice one...

Haiku reflections of Japan (Poetry) - 11/9/2006 12:12:04 PM

Some vital points you made in this poem and some eyeopeners. We as a people must take responsibility to in the world affairs. But we are also at the hands of the people over our indivdual governments. This is a powerful message thankyou for sharing this one. Light &peace, Joselyn

We have everything to lose (Poetry) - 11/3/2006 8:14:34 PM
You are right and very excellent poem with the caveat, that it isn't just the USA at fault, humanity the world over throughout time, before there ever was an America has been in conflict and ruled by tyrants that kept the masses from education etc. It still goes on in poor countries. Thanks for sharing...ET

We have everything to lose (Poetry) - 11/3/2006 1:43:44 PM
There's as much confusion as carbon monoxide polluting the atmosphere and air waves - one reason I don't watch TV anymore. The politics underpinning the green movements etc raise suspicion within my cynical mind. There are a lot of sincere individuals of your fine calibre out there, but your voice gets lost in the pollution of competing politics, some of it driven by an irrational pure hatred - the sum of human psyche emissions. Prince Phillip once said - and he was derided for saying it - that for the ideal world to exist, it would need to be populated by angels. In other words, people without corrupted minds. I'm afraid I'm a sceptic, thanks to the left infestation of the green movement - and I speak as a former socialist now occupying the centre of political gravity. But I do share your compassion for humanity and its survival.

We have everything to lose (Poetry) - 11/3/2006 1:40:31 PM
Yes, yes, yes it is so true, yet america take a selfish point of view. $$$$ today and bury our heads, least England is leading the way, again... We have our kids to think of too. Up top is the serenity prayer.. It carries on God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen. By Reinhold Niebuhr Nice one

We have everything to lose (Poetry) - 11/3/2006 1:35:01 PM
The last line says it all. but let's not forget that 4000 babies are killed each day in the name of abortion. That's happening now and will continue unless we have strong leadership in the government and end this atrocity. Vote wisely your country is at stake.

Fate Awaits (Poetry) - 10/31/2006 10:53:57 AM
Such important questions here Anna, and some very thoughtful insight leads us to the answer. We must let go of our demons and open our hearts. There is hope and you have shown it to us in this contemplative write. ~Butch

The Crazed Writer (Poetry) - 10/31/2006 10:40:41 AM
Anna, this is lovely and it touches me because I can so well relate to the feelings you convey here. I started late in my endeavor to learn to write poetry (as in just about everything else in my life) but at least I am learning. I like the imagery and introspective quality of this write. It is in the struggle to compose our plethora of thoughts and get them to the page in poetic form that we find our joy -overcoming the torment. Well done! ~Butch

Trick or Treat?!- A Halloween Tale (Poetry) - 10/30/2006 8:37:01 AM

The Crazed Writer (Poetry) - 10/29/2006 5:16:03 AM
Too many thoughts unfinished, How will I get them all down? The tormented writer says with a frown, To the outside world, I must seem a fool, Creative people drink from the same cup of delightful eccentricity. I have less years ahead than i have left behind. Knowledge of this forced me into realising that i still have so much to write and paint, and wondering if i will have the time to produce them all. The frown is intense. It's target is on the concentration to create, while at the same time, its object is also those wasted locust years in which I whistled other people's tunes but my own. Bloody fool that I am. Don't go to bed too soon, Anna, or let the sun go down on your creativity - deny it!

Fate Awaits (Poetry) - 10/29/2006 5:08:44 AM
Life is a series of thin lines, ifs, and how can Is. Arthur Miller described life in Death of a Salesman, as a peeling away of an orange skin. Lennon in paraphrasing Browning described it as 'Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plan.' The bible urges us to love our neighbour as ourselves. In other words, before we can be of use to anybody, we have to come to terms with ourselves. Life can be so reflexive, so reflective, yet this introspection and retrospection provides us with the lessons to move forward - ideally. This is a compelling piece in the manner of a Harrison song that contains the repeated, 'It easier to...' refrain.

Trick or Treat?!- A Halloween Tale (Poetry) - 10/29/2006 3:21:17 AM
This reminded me of the mistake I made in Glasgow way back when. I parked the car near Celtic Park. A lad came and asked if he could watch my car. Not familiar with the routine, I said no. Big mistake. I returned to broken windows and a stolen cassette player. lest I be visited by the same unsettling dream, I too tend to stock up with sweets and pound coins (folk stocked threepenny bits when I was a kid - so much for inflation) Well written - must have been to force a Scotsman to dip into his wallet - now that's a challenge!
