Wow, this sounds like the kind of story that keeps you on the edge of your seat far into the night, and the next thing you know it's three o'clock in the morning and the TV's running an old black-and-white movie, like Buster Crabb in Tarzan or something.
Do your editing, get it in print and let us know. You've got readers chompin' at the bit.
