The Pusher - A Thanksgiving Memory (Short Story) - 12/3/2023 2:26:20 PM
What a wonderful true story about the way that most family thanksgivings used to be. When I saw the word "pusher" I was expecting something dramatic, as in fiction, because the word is usually associated with those who sell drugs and keep people addicted.
But the way you describe your grandmother fills the bill of someone who would even push food to someone who was addicted to food. My mother was like that. Unfortunately, she later confessed that she tended to eat any leftover that was not eaten by a member of the family after being brought back for lunches, etc. until it was gone.
Like your grandmother, mom made most everything from scratch except for a couple of things where she cheated, like using canned pumpkin for her pumpkin pies rather than starting from a pumpkin. She stopped making the lavish Thanksgiving dinners in her early 80s and died two years ago at 95, missed by probably a thousand family and friends.
