The Heart of an Angel (Book) - 8/21/2007 6:17:19 AM
I read the article in the local paper this morning, so I checked out your work posted on this site. I wish to first congratulate you for your strong efforts. This said, however, writing books is not just about volume or numbers but about art also.
I will quote a short excerpt from this work of yours, as presented here:
"Her stepfather’s husky frame had just appeared some
distance downhill and she coward lower. Even in his
plain white shirt and blue tights he cut a frightening
shadow. Surely he’ll not find me she prayed and
peered up again. Her eyes widened as she noticed
the dagger sheathed in his leather belt."
The word coward should be cowered. Also, while a person may know what they wish to say, conveying it is something altogether different. I notice that you switch tenses in some of your work, and that does not work. In short, I see an exuberance here that is commendable but to use an analogy, if one were to put a young colt out in a field and let it run, it might run at random, but if one wanted for such a creature to run races, one would need to teach it about running round an oval.
I think you have a remarkable imagination, and creativity goes beyond book learning. That said, however, there is a lot to be said about merging the creative with the technical. I wish you well with
your future endeavours. You have a good start to things. The thing to bear in mind, though, is that you are now a "professional" writer, and that word needs giving credence to.
