Dear Patricia, I wanted to write and thank you for your comments on some of my stories. Then I found this sweet story and started reading. Although I have other things to do tonight, I kept reading another paragraph, and another, until I had read the whole thing. I love the magic in your story! It is interesting from beginning to end, and well-written. I learned much about each of the 3 main characters as I read your descriptive sentences.

Brought a tear to my eyes by the end. What a wonderful story. In this case, Santa Claus did more than just come in the night and sneak off or be a hired mall fixture. He came to bring magic and stay. There is no clause in Claus. ;-)

Yes, it was hard to read. How someone gets in this kind of a situation bothers me. But when I grew up I saw young women around me attracted to violent men as though they were better in some way. But we should learn from our mistakes. The woman in your story waited a bit too long, but at least she finally took the step required. That will encourage readers in the same situation.

This was so real it probably has happened. Unfortunately, suspicions like this often arise when one member of a couple does something that appears different. I guess it's only natural. I was just talking to my partner about how my ex-wife traveled with other men during our three year marriage and I never questioned her about them because I felt it was really none of my business with her she was attracted to other men are not. We left each other on good terms and there were no affairs that either of us had during our marriage that I know of.
She was the kind to give a surprise birthday party. But I was never surprised about my birthday because I knew when it was. ;-)

Your story certainly is short, but sweet. And, has an unusual twist to it that I really like. People tend to be enamored with violence and brutality these days. That's what makes your story refreshing.
Coming from the north, I felt a couple of things were better sent another way. Like the cold [seeping] into the car. It seemed a bit unnatural for a girl to want to play ball on a chilly evening rather than go inside where it's warm and have hot chocolate. Perhaps, if there was the first snow, she might want to make snowballs and have a playful snowball fight with her mother.
Since you were an English teacher, I spotted one minor error. "… his eyes as [he] continued to study…" As an editor, I might have changed a few words and phrases.

What a precious piece of poetic delight! You are so right Patricia! When we take the time to start the day with Jesus things seem to get done in a special way. Blessings start to flow and our love for life with our Savior glows. Then who knows? Someone may ask for a piece of that light! I know I did and since then life been "out of sight!" Amen!
