An amazing experience! I think you're right. God was trying to get your attention. I hope you ask Him to help you and guide you onto the right road spiritually, because it seems obvious He wants you to have a more meaningful relationship with you. This verse from the Bible might help:
"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

as a teacher, i have for you a MUST advice: you can become a LITERATOR (not a literator) ONLY after you follow The Western Canon by Harold Bloom. it is of course, if you want to be a LITERATOR. if you want to be a stepfen king and a literary trash of the same caliber == money-makers, forget my advice and follow their way...
