I'm no student of crime and whether it is increasing nor decreasing as a result of modern technology. But from what I've read, I believe that crimes are solved much easier today and more fairly than they were in the past. The statistics that I have seen show that crime overall, especially violent crime, is decreasing. The news media, focusing on violent crime, makes the average person think that crime is worse.
While still hung up on what you call the pseudosciences, hard science brain research hasn't made much progress in finding out how our consciousness works. But perhaps the data massaging capability of AI can lead to some more factual conclusions rather than Karl Pribram’s theory that the brain is holographic.
I like your description of how AI will never be intelligent the way humans are. But it certainly is a way to dredge up trivia without having to fill one's brain by memorization like those who train for Jeopardy do for the big money it can provide for having a brain full of historical facts and/or misconceptions.
I also like your take on the senses. I cringe every time I read someone writing about the five senses like I did earlier today. While I might have a hard time thinking of 33, I can easily tick off about 10 without any trouble trying to tell people that the myth of five sensors is untrue.
I love your invention of ALICE. I hope you have patented the concept. Deploying what you described would probably enhance crime resolution in a more timely matter and the promise of quick justice for those incarcerated speeded up.
Speaking of justice, the Clancy trial has resulted in a hung jury twice, probably based on the myth that women are to be subservient to men, regardless of the man's behavior. Soundly verified by Eve coming from the rib of her man, Adam bull. Having court cases adjudicated by a panel of 12 of one's peers is tantamount to going back to the Salem Witch trials. Since when is public opinion justice?

I am more concerned with justice, rather than criminality. As a free thinker, I often look at the punishment given various considered forms of criminal behavior, and find them very lacking.
What is considered by society as criminal activity depends on moral constructs, generally fueled by various religions trying to determine what they like or don't like in their religious practices. It is rather arbitrary and very unscientific.
That's why I like your articles even though they are very dense and long. You have a good thing going for those involved pseudoscience to pay attention to.

Once again, I agree with most that you relate. However, my chess game tells me that I am unable to do 4d thinking. I just rely on this scientific method to draw my conclusions about society.
The pseudosciences that you have such a hard on for, contain processes that are scientific. Like you stated, the use of forensic science to solve crimes. Is that not criminology?
DNA was not decoded for criminology, but it is now use regularly to release innocent people from prison and find who is responsible far more accurately than ever before.
I know of a watcher. A neighbor of mine during high school. He joined the local police force and became an investigator. He discovered that half of the force, including the chief, were systematically burglarizing the stores on Main Street with the keys they had to protect them.
They all went to jail. We need to do that with those who are STUPID in office right now.

While you continually hammer away at the social sciences and the cowardice of the American people, you overlook the fact that the United States is not in any danger of threat from anywhere in the world, except perhaps the fact that most people who are down and out in the world think that coming to the United States is a way to become free and financially viable. Something probably detested by the likes of you.
Even with modern warfare being done like video games where most of the soldiers operate remotely highly destructive and deadly force, the idea of killing someone just because they are labeled, like inferior beings, to be annihilated cleanly and out of sight, out of mind, doesn't work on the human psyche that did it.
There is an epidemic of PTSD from those who served on the ground for our country in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. They have seen the horror of killing someone at close range. But even pilots of aircraft dumping large scale bombs on whole populations must have some thoughts of what they had done to innocent collateral damage. Young people know about their elders who are now dysfunctional after being in war. They have no desire to end up there. Give them credit for knowledge, even as they play their electronic war games with great skill.
I am four two years of public service after high school. But that public service can be Service to America, like taking care of the elderly and providing for the poor. The Peace Corps, and military service. Followed by two years of free education…of the young peoples' choice.
Those who cry WOKE, wanting to bury the facts from the past gathered by real science, are also burying real science about global warming that will kill us all. Cowardly or not.
You are letting your biases show with your articles. Mine are for the people. Not an ideology.

While overly wordy and repetitive, your assessment of leadership is quite good. Leaders cannot be trained. Hence, all of these leadership seminars and workshops are basically just a way for whoever sets them up to make money from people who are wannabe leaders.
Simply put. Leadership can't be taught. It must be earned or be intrinsic in the individual.

Although you are wordy and often repetitive, I found much to believe in from what you have written. The major flaw is if this is to be a truly research article, all of your references that you speak of in very general terms, should be noted.
You make me feel comfortable at my age because I will not live to see the total demise of humans. But certainly, all indications point that way as we stupidly, your term, continue through ups and downs of society until we can no longer handle what we have created and it collapses into a dark age.

I tend to agree with your densely worded and somewhat repetitive analysis that we are among a cowardly culture.
Contentiousness between generations and loyalties has always been a characteristic of the United States and our so-called "freedom."
Prior to the Revolutionary War cowardly loyalists outnumbered reactionary patriots. Prior to the Civil War, abolusionists created families with brother against brother. Prior to WWII did not want us to enter European war. The civil rights movement created great cowardly reaction from conscientious objection to nonviolent protest.
The present is really no different. There's plenty of courage in our society among police, firefighters, EMTs, ordinary citizens who pull people out of flaming cars, shield others from bullets and take down crazies without anything but they bare hands.

Should of sciences provide a lot of occupation for those who cannot deal with hard science.
For example, during my study for my master's degree in biotechnology [human factors engineering] I attended many seminars where pseudo scientific methods were used, but had to take courses where I had to learn how to use partial differential equations and other mathematical methods never used in the process of trying to improve the function of human minds and bodies.
Criminology for all of it faults you have described, has been improved greatly recently with the advent of DNA testing leading to the surprising conclusion that much of the justice system is unjust and condemned people based on hearsay by rumor and biased eyewitness identification.
I have never watched the CSI television programs. I have recently watched Tracker and find the handsome fellow I realistically always finding what he's looking for and remarkably lucky when he gets in trouble. A bit entertaining but total nonsense.
What about all those medical shows? My doctors are a lot more human than they used to be.

While I found reading this quite redundant and jargon filled and could've probably been written with about one-third of the wordage, I basically agree with your assumptions and conclusions. I do find it rather annoying with your continually attacking the social sciences as being of little or no use.
From my own experience as a student and a professor, I have found that when it comes to ego and moving forward in our "free enterprise, capitalistic" society in the United States, when one sees an opportunity to move ahead or gain advantage, one cheats. I have seen it time and time again. I even admitted to cheating with my article here, "Confessions of a Welfare Cheat."
However, there are levels of harm to society by cheating. And, those at the highest levels of our society, white collar crime, are the most damaging. Even though it is what you called street crime that gets the most attention. In my observation, I have known many accomplished and hard-working people who wouldn't think of taking advantage or even a penny from anyone else. I have also known those who take every advantage following the Machiavelli playbook. Some of them in very high places. But the interesting thing is regardless of laws and principles, very few of them get away with it. The higher they get, the lower they end up. I've seen them die early.

There's only one thing that I didn't see… Probably because it really wasn't part of the topic. Most cell phone users think they are multitasking, when they are actually distracted. This distraction causes a lot of pain among those who are attempting to break through the euphoria or in the way of the path of the distracted individual driving a car.
I would've been one of the first to use a cell phone if I had been able to hold one in my hand or manipulate the screen with my fingers. My paralyzed hands allow neither. I have to use an old-fashioned phone without any of those seductive features. I'm also on the computer many hours during the day. But I don't engage in social chitchat or gossip and don't recall ever giving anyone a thumbs up or other nonsense. The computer allows me to overcome much of my physical disability, including my growing hearing loss.
You are so right about the devolution of society. There are many reasons why in addition to seductive addiction to convenience devices. The human population is growing less intelligent with each generation.
Of course, there are exceptions as you have carefully pointed out.

Thank you for writing this overly long and somewhat, repetitive journey into the fantasy side of life, now bulwarked with professions that follow these pseudo-sciences with vigor, especially on reality TV. In the early 1970s while I was studying for my doctorate, I was dismayed with some of my fellow doctoral students pursuing ancient aliens and subliminal persuasion in the media that may or may not have any merit, scientifically.
Genres that were only part of fiction, now becoming mainstream through many channels on television, with experts claiming expertise and well-planned props and situations created that give credence to BS that continues to grow and make money for those pursuing such falsehood claiming to use science when there's nothing scientific about it.
I am no longer following any fantasy science fiction, paranormal, or stupid rumors that have grown into industries of moneymaking. Including the many forms of religion following many forms of what they call God, the supreme leader of their very small, primitive and childlike universes.
I am currently participating in a double-blind study taking a drug that may or may not be effective for neuropathic pain. I find this kind of study truly scientific and useful for the medical profession to properly prescribe drugs for conditions like neuropathic pain caused by spinal cord injury and not pseudo-psychological pain caused by mental illness being fed by commercial enterprises of all kinds pushing cures of unscientific origin.
Finally, I believe that the court system has been unjust for so very long by using eyewitness accounts instead of true science like DNA and the traditional juries in favor of those who select their jurors rather than using just scientific evidence as proof of crime or not. The guilty often go free and many times, the innocent have been incarcerated without hope of reverse if proven otherwise.
And the bail system is also corrupt, often allowing hardened criminals back on the street to commit crimes before their trials. Trials are not speedy, because of all of the human engineered interference to delay or reconsider criminal action that is clear-cut and not needing another look from pseudo-psychology.

While rather dense and repetitive, I agree with your conclusion in this article. Underneath it all, are our basic fears… According to the social science of psychology, we are born with only two fears in the textbooks (I'm not sure what the proof is, but probably scientific studies conducted properly): the fear of loud noises and falling.
However, as soon as we began communicating, those around us began filling us with fears. I was told to pray at bedside… "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray my soul the Lord to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take." This prayer came from a time when many babies died from many causes. Children, for the most part, today do not have to worry about dying every night from cold, hunger, disease or other dangers that existed… Like the big bad wolf that was going to eat you… When social wolves would rather stay out of the way of humans altogether.
I love writing fiction. But I refuse to write science fiction with all of the fringe theories out there taking real science like black holes and wormholes and using them for just plain fantasy. While I loved Superman growing up, I find that all of the current line of alien creatures or humans with otherworldly attributes quite disgusting and have stopped watching movies of superheroes that are scientifically impossible.
I will think twice about calling someone brainwashed (literally cleaning all of their brain of knowledge?) or being programmed when they are acting delusional.
