The Last Picnic With Greta (Short Story) - 11/27/2025 4:10:54 AM
One true revelation spoke volumes about Greta's lack of compassion for anyone. A story with impact.

The Last Picnic With Greta (Short Story) - 6/3/2005 9:24:11 AM
What a sad story. Sad becuz it's horrible to think that people really were and ARE like Greta. Thanks so much for sharing this heartfelt piece, April

Why I Am A Pro-After-Lifer (Article) - 9/19/2022 11:25:37 AM
Every word of your essay has the ring of truth. And they are all supported by a coherent theme, a sense of justice, and a keen wit. BTW, those elements are also the sum and substance of a well-written composition. Thanks, Darlene. I look forward to more of your wisdom.

I'm leaving it up to Julia (Article) - 7/16/2008 3:54:33 PM
Powerful write, you are in my prayers In Christs Love Michelle~

I'm leaving it up to Julia (Article) - 10/16/2005 1:44:15 PM
It sounds to me like the act of writing this article serves some rhetorical purpose for you. I think you are trying to convince yourself to go and find her but, then again, maybe not. You are wasting your time, I'm afraid. If I were you I would act now, before your condition worsens to the point where action is not possible. The results may be bad: she may not wish to know you at all. Then again they may be good: she may be glad you made the first move. You say she's 21? That's all fine and well but at that age we are all still growing and maturing, in many different ways. Either way you will know for sure. Don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today, for tomorrow may never come.

Massachusetts to Dialysis Patients: Keep Sitting On Your Butts (Article) - 9/19/2005 10:53:26 AM
Ah, another person with chronic kidney disease struggling with the downside of the medical services bureaucracy ... after three years (since July, 2002) I have become VERY familiar with that side of the "business" ... Luckily I have a core group of medical care providers at the clinics of UMDNJ (University of Medicine and Dentisty, New Jersy) and it's hospital, University Hospital, in Newark, NJ, who provide superior care. (I love those shiney-faced residents all practicing their new and improved bedside manner on me!) The other thing in my favor is that the Essex County Division of Aging and the State of New Jersey's Department of Health and Senior Services are assertive in their support of Senior Citizens like me. Again, superior writing ... Best, Gus Hilding "Gus" Lindquist

Why I Am A Pro-After-Lifer (Article) - 9/19/2005 10:42:52 AM
This is definitely evidence of an active mind ... plus it has the energy of a superior writer's use of language ... Good stuff! Best, Gus Hilding "Gus" Lindquist

The Infamous "Potential" (Article) - 9/19/2005 10:38:16 AM
OK, you definitely have "potential" as a writer ... in this essay, it is "realized" potential. This was about as good a piece as I have read in a long time ... clear concrete language with active verbs ... with an interweaving of issues ... the next to last paragraph beginning with "Every year would start off well, ... " is an excellent example of that dynamic, leaving the reader hungry for more. I will definitely look for "more". Best, Gus Hilding "Gus" Lindquist

The Infamous "Potential" (Article) - 8/5/2005 5:36:07 AM
Poor thing. My mother always told me that it was not the grades but what I learned that really mattered. I did well until a teacher gave me my first bad grade ever for a misused comma. An "F". I left the room crying. Then the teacher told my friend, "She's too hard on herself."

Factory Lesson Number One: Milk The Job (Article) - 5/13/2005 4:27:27 PM
You are so right. I've seen everything you've talked about, politics and all. My company doesn't seem to want to fire anyone. They lean on the better workers because they know they'll get the work out. Bob H

Factory Lesson Number One: Milk The Job (Article) - 4/6/2005 8:13:11 AM
Darlene, You certainly hit the proverbial (corporate) nail on the head with this well-done, extra-fine literary piece - I once worked in a factory that made wooden truces for homes and businesses - worked the grave yard shift; was so glad to get out of there!! Blessings, Robert

Factory Lesson Number One: Milk The Job (Article) - 1/17/2005 3:35:51 PM
You are right and before I became a nurse I worked in factories. You said this and it is about time.

Factory Lesson Number One: Milk The Job (Article) - 1/17/2005 3:30:30 PM
so true, dar, so true! i used to work in a factory for a brief time, and i heard and saw much! great write! :) (((HUGS))) and love, your tx. friend, karen lynn. :D (the factory job was the first job i ever had; it was for people with disabilities, and i worked there six months, which was how long the training period was.)

Why I Am A Pro-After-Lifer (Article) - 1/15/2005 3:55:44 PM
I certainly agree with this and hey my ghost friend has a habit of biting some really despicable people and I do mean that.

Massachusetts to Dialysis Patients: Keep Sitting On Your Butts (Article) - 12/21/2004 4:10:16 PM
Virginia did not share this policy and I had to drive myself back and forth to treatment as well. I agree with Karen and thank goodness I only had to have one kidney removed but I sympathize with you.

Massachusetts to Dialysis Patients: Keep Sitting On Your Butts (Article) - 12/21/2004 1:08:20 PM

Will The Real John Kerry Please Shut Up? (Article) - 5/26/2004 12:25:28 AM
Poor John. I doubt if he has the ability to shut up. He always supports both sides of every issue at one time or another. Nice article.

My 95th trip to Bonehead Medical Center (Article) - 5/3/2004 2:45:19 PM

I Want It...But I don't Need It...But It's On Sale! (Article) - 5/3/2004 4:51:40 AM
I think a timer carried in the pocket might remind me. "Get out of the store...get out of the store now." Great write! :)

My 95th trip to Bonehead Medical Center (Article) - 5/3/2004 4:48:05 AM
That is sad, but soooo true! I'm glad you had the fit. Sometimes a necessary strategy...

Thoughts on Genesis: 22 (Article) - 4/5/2004 12:46:15 AM
The Texas situation is beyond sad. The woman was found to be insane. Perhaps Abraham knew the voice of God well enough to realize that, even though it was out of God's character, it was indeed God speaking. I myself am not a religious individual, so I could never claim to hear the voice of God. I enjoyed your insight.

Whatever Happened To Hoofing It On Halloween? (Article) - 11/13/2003 7:31:07 PM
I agree. Aside from Halloween being safer in the old days, I resented the large number of older out-of-towners coming to visit. It seemed like they started visiting from three adjoining states.

Whatever Happened To Hoofing It On Halloween? (Article) - 11/12/2003 6:06:19 PM
Yeah, I liked those days too. Halloween has almost become a kid "industry". And some of them are not exactly kids.

Whatever Happened To Hoofing It On Halloween? (Article) - 10/27/2003 8:53:07 PM
Too many perverts out there. Shame too.

Speak Now, Or Remain Forever In Seventh Grade (Article) - 9/7/2003 5:27:51 PM
I wonder what kind of work you would have been expected to do if you repeated the grade. We often surprise ourselves at the most unexpected times. You should always answer questions in a way that pleases the person who stares back at you in the mirror. Really well one, important article.

Dar's Guide to Dialysis Nurses (Article) - 8/23/2003 7:22:28 AM
It's a shame that you've known enough of these people to be able to put together a guide. But your great attitude is another reason you're still standing.

My 95th trip to Bonehead Medical Center (Article) - 8/23/2003 7:19:24 AM
Really interesting. I'm sorry for all your aggravation. I'm learning to no longer take good health for granted.

The People On The Hill (Poetry) - 2/10/2004 7:08:13 PM
A well-sequenced free verse. Its communicative power is assisted by a good flow and an ability to convey appropriate, revelatory images. Thus, you have been able to share with your readers a personal experience created by poetic insight, enhanced by a tone of sincere compassion and understanding. Thanks for sharing, Jill.

The People On The Hill (Poetry) - 2/10/2004 6:01:10 PM
This is a very deep heart touching poem! Thank you for such a beautiful sharing.

Miscalculation (Poetry) - 2/9/2004 5:19:05 PM
This, like the other poems I've read by you, is a vivid tale, at once rich and simplistic. So much so, I think it's easy to overlook the obvious question one never bothers to ask: If aliens crashed and scavengers ate their bodies, would it affect the earthly scavengers? Perhaps MUFON or some such organization should study the coyotes, see if there's a difference between those in and around Roswell and those from elsewhere.

The People On The Hill (Poetry) - 11/12/2003 6:09:26 PM
If this was a nice world, it would be Christmas every day -- for those who won't make it to the next one, and for the rest of us too.

The People On The Hill (Poetry) - 8/11/2003 10:59:09 AM

Do or Do Not, There is No Try! I am the long hair in a room full of buzz-cuts, the jokester in the most serious moment, I AM The BLUE GLASS, TOO (it also helps it's my favorite color).

The People On The Hill (Poetry) - 7/3/2003 10:54:22 PM
Thanks for sharing this one Darlene. Your poem highlights the important work of hospices, and tells a touching story well, without sentimenality, as Bess Warley pointed out.... Sara.

The People On The Hill (Poetry) - 6/28/2003 1:25:58 PM
this one really tugs at the heart-strings without being sappy. Reality, but spirituality, too...

Love it, Darlene!! My family lets the Desert form of Daddy-long-legs live companionably in our house, and if we do have to clean the corners for guests, we sweep them up with the feather duster, and shake them out in the bushes so they have a chance to Live. :)
