I grew up in a Roman Catholic town, but fortunately was not indoctrinated to the ridiculous rituals that I found quite funny some of my friends had to adhere to. Two of my brothers both had to convert to Roman Catholic to marry their sweethearts… Only to divorce them later.
The biggest problem that the Catholic Church has, aside from its accumulation of money and power through the ages, is the rampant homosexuality and pedophilia among the priests. It's hard for me to believe that it was only recently that this practice of covering up all those instances going back centuries was never brought to light and corrected.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that social media has the huge capability of bringing about a more peaceful world. I disagree about one thing, and that is our control of nature. More and more, it has become apparent that we must stop controlling nature, but use it in positive ways. Greed has damaged nature in many ways and we need to reverse that trend as well as promote peacefulness among people.
The ability of cell phones to capture events worldwide as they happen and transmit them through social media to nearly everyone connected, has altered our view of our world. For some it is overwhelming… Thinking that all these things are happening in their backyard… When the backyard now is really the world. Actually, this is a good thing, making us aware of things we never were aware of before.
I currently respond to about 10 petitions a day on all sorts of issues, worldwide. This is people power in action. I'm especially pleased when large multinational corporations or foreign governments realize the error of their ways when people protest through petitions. Physical conflict is avoided and the truth is revealed. Amazing!

Food for thought. The United States could set a good example by accepting these refugees in larger quantities and guaranteeing them my path back once the hostilities had ceased and it was safe for them and their children to return. One problem one would encounter would be what would be left after conflict like this, for those returning.
