My sister would love this one. She is too young for some of the horror I write but this is the kind of story that I will say will be perfect for her age bracket. Reminds me of some of the horror stories I read in my youth, the scary stories to tell in the dark era horror of the 1980s. It is about as dark as some of the things that R.L. Stine will write and one thing I will say -- keep a close eye on. You got the premise for something longer here.

Such a heartwarming story; even kids who appear tough on the exterior aren't as tough as they first seem to be, especially when dealing with children with disabilities; their willingness to help them makes them forget of their own troubles, and they reach out to someone who is in need! Gail, I felt right at home with this fine article. I spent many years in this exact scene. Many many years. I felt exactly what you wrote. Because I have been there and know about it.The grouping was most true and most humorous. There is hypocrisy and the arrogance of "some" but not all. And of course we know this has nothing to do with God. My God will always be my God. I profess His name anywhere and anytime and try hard to be worthy although I know I will never be. We have what we call 'The Great Kiwi Bach'. It is iconic to New Zealanders and because we are an island nation, the beach is never far from any of us... With 'To the Lake' you have painted an absolutely perfect picture of that holiday migration we make (some to lakes, but most to the coastlines) every summer to the beach for the making of our family memories which all but the least fortunate of us share!

This is in fact very effective poetry. I agree with Ch'erie Perrette. This verse DOES have the ring of truth in it.
Also, your use of the verb "Stay" is highly imaginative. I can see all sorts of double-entendres in it, not the least of which is, "stay = hold to, hold on, keep"
