I like historical fiction and I like the story of technology. Tesla played an immense part in the electrification of the world and was an enigmatic figure in many ways. He left mysteries about his death and many inventions that were never even patented.
Your Gypsy lover, Julia, seems unlikely to have ever entered the scene of Tesla's life but I think the premise that she provided him with his insights is an interesting one. I have written one story involving a Gypsy that never quite become real as a hitchhiker on a road trip. I guess Gypsies are fair game for stories because of their interesting lifestyles.
Your excerpt reads well. And you leave the teaser at the end.
