Yes, quite a story. But you sparked a story of my own… A very true story.
My uncle was no angel. He managed to build a small trucking company in the little town of Withee, Wisconsin. But, by 1962, it was failing along with his second marriage. In March, when his father, my grandfather was near death, he told my aunt that he was going to Minnesota to buy corn to bring back to Wisconsin to sell to farmers. He took $2000 cash to buy the corn.
A few days later, his truck was found parked on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi at Wabasha with a single set of tracks in the light snow leading to the highway. He had acquired a new identity and met up with a suspected missing barmaid. He left five children and she left five children. They drove to California in her car and disappeared. The FBI wouldn't help my aunt find him because he hadn't crossed state lines and the local police had nothing to go by.
In 2007, a private investigator hired by her children, quickly found her through her Social Security number, dead in 2005, in Boise where she had lived with my uncle in retirement until 1995 when he died. They left their house to their neighbor and the private investigator found pictures of their life together and copies of the local Wisconsin paper that my aunt often reported what was happening with the children.

That is a wonderful story. I think in some malls, they wouldn't let you see Santa. I especially like that last line.
While Bowling Green, Ohio is more prominent, I do recall Bowling Green, Kentucky back when I was dating a girl from Paducah. And, I had a college friend from Bombay who was transferred to Campbellsville by Corning glass or Ingersoll-Rand from New York. He thought of the place as rather backward and was glad to be transferred again to Louisville.
We even get snow once in a while here in Houston. But it's been a few years.

Mike,
I was most "touched" by your writing on "Touch"....I remember touching someone's hand and the immediate warmth, softness, spark and known connection I felt...even though I had just met that person...Knowing how touch affects newborn babies, particularly premies.... and how they survive from the touch of another..Knowing how my patients on the psych unit respond to touch when they are in their deepest psychotic state and may be aggressive. A touch on the arm or hand soothes them more than any pills, or injections..."Touch" says a thousand words without saying a word...I agree it does take a lot of bravery to touch in various situations...What a difference we can make.... Thank you...

It certainly is a pain to move… And downsizing is often necessary with all the junk we collect. I recall my mother, somewhat jealously, telling me that while in the Air Force my aunt and uncle always got new appliances every time they moved. ;-)
Because of my paralysis, without good help, I couldn't move, even though until I was 30, everything I own could be put in my car for a move. In 1975, I bought a small cottage with "1928 wedding furniture." That furniture, two moves later, is in this house and completely furnishes the living room. Got an offer for the couch and chair when it was being recovered in red velvet of $3500. I declined. Everything is solid wood and ageless.
I do recall bringing my papers to this place in a heavily overloaded U-Haul trailer. In the ensuing months and years, about five, I threw out about 80% of the papers I brought. But still haven't sold anything. eBay, here I come!

You sure had a lucky day with your story about all those points. While I accept discount codes and sometimes get free shipping with a certain purchase amount, I never accumulate points that are enough, except, perhaps, those cash back points money rewards I get from putting everything in monthly bills on my credit card.

A great little story of an observation of life. Makes one wonder if Clara had a husband and Dean had a father. A lot of single parents out there these days.
