I just returned from a tour in Louisiana. Last year I went to the Melrose Plantation but don't recall any feeling of voodoo. Passed through Lake Charles both ways, but had a horrific accident just after crossing the Louisiana border into Texas at Orange. Voodoo? Thankfully, the three of us were uninjured as my car plunged deep into a wooded swamp.
Your premise is quite good, but the writing needs to be worked on (a good editor could help you with that) also, there are a number of typos and spellos that could be easily removed by using a spellchecker.
Keep writing, the more you write, the better you will get.
