I would leave this one to the physicists, like Einstein and Hawking who have delved into these matters deeper than anyone. I can't do the math. Anyone who can't do the math, can't prove the physics. It takes much more than observation.

It's easy to speculate; it's harder to shed light on something. Very little for certain is known about dark matter, which is different than dark energy. Dark matter has been proposed because distant galaxies behave as if gravity is ten times more powerful than the mass of their stars. I'm not sure how astronomers measure total mass from distant galaxies. Nor do I trust they can estimate the total mass contained in black holes. Still, the excess gravity is definitely acting on galactic stars which move faster than they should according to the laws of motion as we know them. Hence, dark matter is related to the mysterious excess of observed gravity.

I have never studied thermodynamics, but I believe that dark matter and dark energy theories are fundamentally changing the way scientists view traditional thermodynamics.

Thanks for clarifying something I hadn't placed much thought in before. The idea that the earth is rotating around the sun, the sun is rotating around the galaxy, and the Milky Way is rotating around?, Brings into light the possibility of new dimensions from the curvature of space.

Interesting. I believe recently I read that capturing only a small portion of the Sun's energy falling on the earth would be enough to power all of our need for power for millennia to come. To think that the Earth's face to the Sun is so minute compared to the huge sphere of energy at the Earth's orbit, gives us some idea of the Sun's power and how much of the Sun's power does not fall on any planet, moon, or asteroid and escapes the solar system without affecting anything.
As for your question… since it takes about 4 min. for the for the Sun's energy to reach the Earth and the Earth is orbiting the Sun, it might take some triangulation and correction to calculate the exact speed.

I like the ending! - "Just as my hopes and fears go around me everyday."
I know what you mean by that. We all have hopes, and we all have fears; but like what you have done to the water, you said you have raised it so I can imagine the "Splash" that would come afterwards, which would have created so many patterns of hopes and excitement.
It is true too, we would always have fears that our hopes would not come true.
I like this poem. It is simple, and yet it's full of meanings.
