One of the geniuses of our government is its system of checks and balances, so elegantly demonstrated in the past week. Something to celebrate this Fourth of July.
You are so right about the continuum of value and the general chaos that exists. I disappointed my last potential employer in quality control when they required me to instill "zero defects" in their employees. When I told them that I couldn't do that, they didn't hire me. The recent failures of SpaceX launches show that chaos rules over perfection.
