Writer Bien has crafted an easy reading tale sure to appeal to youngsters who may be in search of their own gender identity.
I can see a place for Hold Your Light on the counselor’s shelf, as well as in the public library and even in many progressive school libraries. I might venture that many, if not most of us do in fact know a Rodney or two, teachers face a wide range of youngsters as the years go by. I suspect that young gender troubled students have sat under the tutelage of many of us whether we choose to accept or believe so.
Hold Your Light is a well written, fast moving work having a few grammar or typo type problems which in no way detract or prevent enjoyment of the work.
Happy to recommend Wayne Bien’s Hold Your Light for the YA audience, middle to upper grade and high school students, counselors, and parents who may suspect their own child may have gender issues and do not know how to broach or talk to their child as well as any segment of readers who know little of gender issues and are willing to read with an open mind.
I plan to offer my own paperback copy to our school counselor where I think the work may well fit into a counseling program.

What kind of hospital allows night nurses to wear casual clothes? The story is way too short to be anyway meaningful. Constipation is not your condition that has you in the hospital so long. It's probably a symptom.
My prison is my home. My caregivers are instructed that my bedroom is not a hospital room, although they sometimes tend to wear hospital clothes and behave like they are in a hospital. Trapped gas is a normal occurrence here and there is no hospital in sight. ;-)

Last year I edited a Native American novel where a crow played the spirit of a dead grandfather shaman, guiding the survivors of an apocalypse to a new beginning.

When life throws you lemons, you sure know how to make lemonade. You are so fortunate to be able to function so well with MS. Friends that I know that have MS, often go through major problems, even death at an early age.
After my hands were paralyzed in spinal cord surgery, I was never able to play a musical instrument again. If I had been able to, it would've been a guitar.

What a wonderful tribute. Yes, I recall many teachers who mentored me in similar ways along the way by their extraordinary abilities that they gratefully passed on to me.
One in particular comes to my mind: Michael Jerry. He is a modern day Paul Revere and I was fortunate enough to have a room in the Victorian house he restored with his wife and to have been a star pupil in his design courses. I only wish I had lost my hands to paralysis so that I could do work like him.

Such a heart warming tribute to a one-of-a-kind teacher who still inspires you. The poem is just right! Your story reminds me of my memorable and dedicated high school art teacher, Mrs. Foster, whom I wrote about in my memoir, "Perspective through Art."

A great horse story. And doubly great because it's true and about perseverance.
Fortunately, I'm able to get on long shots, too. Tomorrow, I'm spending $1000 on an original collage of one of four horses (I get my pick) that Grant Manier, a 20-year-old autistic eco-artist has just created as a result of my encouragement. You had enough horse sense to see the potential in Mio Host, and he didn't prove you wrong. Life's a gamble, and sometimes you take your chances by investing more than money, and they pay off in more than money. A well-written story. If only we could all go out to pasture with a legacy behind us.

The old expression, "better late than never," seems to apply. From what I read, you already had an artistic gene that just had to be turned on. Makes me very interested in knowing what followed as you developed your artistic skills.
While I've always enjoyed artwork and sculpture, I never seemed to get into that much creativity and stuck to artwork that had an applied purpose like design of practical objects like homes and automobiles. But through these media, I was quite surprised at times that my ability was better than I thought. I especially liked doing renderings of automobiles with grease pencils on construction paper.

I almost didn't read your story because of the title. I'm so glad that I did. You are truly gifted if you have received some acclaim for your artwork and can still write so well even if it is less than 10,000 words. And, I can empathize with you a bit, because I am paralyzed and have known many people who have had MS and have some understanding of the difficulty that arises from the disease. May a cure be found soon.
Your journey is very interesting and enjoyable to read. By coincidence, I recently bought a signed and numbered reprint of a framed set of the heads of four horses from a gifted young eco-artist with autism, Grant Manier, 20. His collages consisting of clippings from magazines and posters have catapulted him into one of the leading artists in eco-art. As a result, I have commissioned a horse to be rendered by him for me. And he is very excited to do it. He is also Apache.

I've only ridden horses a couple of times, so it was interesting to learn some new terminology and read your great little teenage success story. I'm not sure why Pete didn't give you the crop immediately. Perhaps he was testing you to see how you would stand up to Rocket's mannerisms before he clued you in.
I caught a missing apostrophe on horse's and a couple of other things, otherwise beautifully written and the kind of story that is uplifting for many young kids these days.

I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written, heart-warming story which put a snarky counselor and instructor in their place and, most importantly, you rode Rocket high in the saddle. I noted a typo, the only "neigh say": gave him a big 'hung' back in his stall.

We all have much to thank of great mentors in our lives. I recall Michael Jerry, who I took a room from in my junior year in college and a design course that gave me the tools necessary for creating my website. I have checked out your website and find it quite simple and direct. I have toyed with the idea of changing mine, but I find that it works well on mobile devices, except the links are quite small and close together… Something I haven't quite resolved.
You may recall that I wrote an article about an artist that does beautiful collages. The article is, Artist Shreds Misconceptions.

How sad. I have some ugly, but treasured, objects made by my children. Just last week, I was trying to glue 2 legs back onto a lopsided clay turtle made by a grandchild. Your mother missed out on a valuable connection between parent and child, when the parent values every effort to please. Forgive her. She was concerned with the opinions of others, perhaps lacking self-esteem and needing their approval, just as you needed hers.
