So, after reading A R Williams’ First 2 Arcadia’s Children novels and eagerly awaiting the third I was somewhat surprised when this book appeared on my “because you read” on my kindle.
“Jim’s Revenge” is a pretty far departure from the two previous books. There isn’t a killer mutant space millipede or psychotic robot to be seen anywhere. Instead we get the epic tale of an elderly bloke who gets a part time job making brews for a bunch of office workers.
Yep, you read that correctly. Now obviously it isn’t as simple as that hence the “revenge” bit in the title. But I’d rather not spoil anything here except to say that Andrew R Williams has proved here, like many a good writer, that he isn’t limited to a certain genre.
Also his gift for writing really likeable, and dislike able characters is well intact! Jim our elderly hero is the sort of bloke you see in your local pub and have a beer with. He’s the next door neighbour who you ask your parcels to be delivered to when you aren’t going to be in. The high point of his day is feeding the ducks.
But, as the office workers he delivers the tea to discover: cross this guy at your own risk!
And speaking of the office (who’s name I genuinely laughed out loud at!) and it’s workers, well let’s just say by the end of the book they have got exactly what is coming to them!
All the characters are truly well written, feel real and I finished the book with a big old smile. An easy recommendation.

Jim's Revenge : Another enjoyable book by local author Andrew Williams. The well illustrated scenes that seem to place you right in the heart of the story (as with other works by this author). As soon as I started to read Jim's Revenge I did not want to put the book down. Twists and turns in the story and the excellent character descriptions gave me full visual insight - keeping me fully interested throughout - right to the very end. I recommend Jim's Revenge and give it 5/5* . An easy read and easy to follow. J. Morrow

This is a slow starter with so many variables that it didn't make sense in the beginning. To be honest, I had my doubts and thought to quite by chapter 4. Nevertheless, I continued and by the last page, I am glad I did.
Jim's Revenge is a witty, cleverly planned plot with so many happening at the same time that you get lost in all the details. With this book, details definitely made the story. Each scene another building block cleverly devised till the end. And the end result was fantastic. Revenge is sweet is a good description for this book and deserves a round of applause.
The dialogue is written in such a way that it pulls you in and keeps your attention. Through it, you really get to know the characters, one by one.
Jim, the main character is a pensioner. To curb the boredom he applied for a job across the street at Slobend, Fleecem & Skinnem. Without adding some spoilers to the review it definitely is good to know, because it forms the foundation of the plot. The entire plot involves the employees of this company and Jim learned quickly. All I am willing to mention is that practical jokes have a way to catch up to you. Watch out who you play with. Jim might be old but definitely not senile or stupid. After this, you will have to buy the book. Seriously, it will be money well spent.
The supporting characters were a mixture of sweet and sour, with a tangy twist which made it surprisingly witty. From drug barons to the damsel in distress, each character forms part of the plot.
The author's writing style is sharp and to the point which made it easy to follow, as well as fast-paced and enjoyable. Thanks for the book and the interesting reading time.

Did it again!!
Great Book, I must say. The way the story unfolds and take you deep into the another world is simply amazing, Andrew's writing is awe-inspiring. I loved the mindset of Mick Tarmy and the way he handled every scenario, basically I loved how the author portrayed it. The way the situations were explained was so impressive, I did not even want to take a break from it. I just wanted to fall in the story more and more. I found Tarmy's priorities and his affection to his daughter and his little group quite endearing. I highly recommend this book to all prequel readers, tarleton haters :P and all those who enjoys stories about other worlds like me.
