Are you ready to laugh until your ribs ache? Then this is the book for you! I don't ever remember having read a book that was funnier than Gracious Me...Is Nothing Sacred.
Thomas Shubnell begins his book with some nuggets of spiritual wisdom. He dedicates his book to all believers and non-believers so that they may find their way to the joy of life. Then he includes a beautiful blessing that reads, “Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused.”
From that point forward, you will indeed be blessed with seemingly endless laughter along with a few more pearls of spiritual wisdom. Just be aware that the book's initial blessing might also serve as a forewarning. The book, which contains hundreds of side-splitting jokes, holds no punches. No one or no religion is off limits to be the subject of a joke!
The book is irreverent and bawdy. It's true, it may offend you if you can't embrace the foibles of humankind and their religions. Few of us are saints and if any religion was perfect we would probably only need one. If you can accept that, you'll be in for a joy ride from the first page until the last. You'll also end up with a joke for nearly every day of the year that you can use to delight your friends.
Make sure your favorite priest, nun, rabbi, or minister has an open mind and a sense of humor before you tell them a joke in which one of their colleagues may be involved in behavior unbecoming to their callings. You'll never look at holy water the same way again, especially if you happen to come upon a nun who is gargling with it.
It's not just the religious that are roasted in the book. Hell can be a hot place in more ways than one. You may not be surprised to learn that it is full of lawyers or the likes of Richard Nixon and Saddam Hussein. It's also full of common men and women such as yourselves. Just be careful of the deal the devil may offer you if you happen to end up there and you encounter Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.
I treated this book like a box of chocolates. Sometimes I enjoyed just a few jokes at a time. At other times, I devoured entire sections of the book in a long sitting. Either way, I came away totally satisfied. It's been a long time since I have enjoyed so many belly laughs!

I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of quality, fresh material. This is a real value with numerous medically related jokes on nearly every one of the 340 pages. I don't know how he managed to accumulate so many anecdotes that were new to this old joke master. I sincerely recommend it.
