Chapter 5 - Hammer Down (Short Story) - 9/13/2009 12:46:12 PM
Go Go Go-Go! She heard the Poe-e-try in the lingo, and she slings it down the counter to us. Can you write or what? :)
Chapter 3 - Summer of Love, Summer of Loss (Short Story) - 9/13/2009 12:40:40 PM
Brave story, Patricia--brave and long overdue to be shared. Another non-resolution, but life, damn it, is rarely as tidy as a movie. Goddess Bless. She understands.
Chapter 1 - Kielbasa and Pierogies and Dandeline Wine (Short Story) - 5/10/2009 11:58:17 AM
Patricia, what a moving, engaging, and beautifully written tale.
I would have liked to have known Grandfather Spero and would have
loved Grandmother Anna. -gene.
Chapter 4 - Even GoGo Girls Get the Blues (Short Story) - 5/3/2009 11:14:50 AM
Wow, this moves fast. There is so much here and I have questions about the lives lived inbetween the words. I sense there is a lot of stories hidden between the lines and that it is worth the telling--the world of eighteen wheels and endless highways.
Chapter 5 - Hammer Down (Short Story) - 5/3/2009 11:04:22 AM
I didn't see that this was Chapter 5 for Hammer Down. Didn't matter. The prose flows like a swift river and carried me along in its powerful grip. My brother-in-law, nephew and a friend all drove long halls and this was their life. Until Hammer Down, I didn't know what it was like living on the road. Vivid. Alive. Thank you for bringing this world to life.
Chapter 2 - Girl and Chicken (Short Story) - 4/3/2009 7:16:55 AM
Wonderfully warm, human, painful, beautifully written chapter,
Patricia. Key words here are: beautifully written. If every
guy who "crowed like a sonofabitch" had to buy the farm, there'd
be a helluva drop in the male population. -gene.
Chapter 4 - Even GoGo Girls Get the Blues (Short Story) - 3/31/2009 2:08:59 PM
Yes, a hell of a ride, Patricia. I love this:
Fast forward now … And so the circle is unbroken. It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there. And the music, always the music, to remind me. Shot glasses and sequins, beer bottles and bugle beads, fringe and freaks … all mixed together in a panopoly of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll, flashy and loud and alive like nothing else, before or since.
You tell a hell of a yarn. -gene.
Chapter 5 - Hammer Down (Short Story) - 3/31/2009 1:54:29 PM
Fascinating. Great write, Patricia, Great introduction to the
road, to haulin' via those long-nose conventionals pulling 43 foot
long. And you know what? I believe this shit. Glad to know what all the fuss was a bout. -gene.
Chapter 1 - Kielbasa and Pierogies and Dandeline Wine (Short Story) - 3/31/2009 9:17:08 AM
Love it--shared with Marie and Mary Ann, who are of an age to get this. Your poor Grandma! She'd reached the end of her rope.
Chapter 2 - Girl and Chicken (Short Story) - 3/31/2009 9:04:01 AM
Who did they think they were fooling? Love the pic, and the story! Poor damn Wacky, turned in by someone without a heart on Trinidad Ave. When you think of what people think is acceptable for noise these days...I'd kill just to have Little Wacky next door!
Chapter 4 - Even GoGo Girls Get the Blues (Short Story) - 3/31/2009 9:00:12 AM
Wow--this is a gud'un. Takes me to places I've never been, and reminds of a picture in the "Rock Dreams" book of Honky Tonk Angels. You got the best stories, lady! Smoke 'em if you got 'em...
Watch Me, Daddy (Poetry) - 2/19/2011 9:36:14 AM
Patricia, I'm sorry I'm late getting here to read this
most moving and beautifully written poem to your Daddy.
-gene.
Watch Me, Daddy (Poetry) - 2/7/2010 10:34:26 PM
Wow, that's heartbreaking, beautiful and touching- I related to this poem big time, and thankfully, my Dad is still here with me and we are sharing happy times-I know yours is still with you, too, and he is watching you from heaven. Wonderful poem, this should be published.
Watch Me, Daddy (Poetry) - 2/5/2010 7:27:31 PM
This is so beautiful. Brought back some wonderful memories. Thank you. Cheers, Liz
Watch Me, Daddy (Poetry) - 2/5/2010 2:44:29 PM
Enjoyed this very much. You capture the feelings.
Watch Me, Daddy (Poetry) - 2/5/2010 1:39:50 PM
Powerful poem. He was a fortunate daddy to have such a loving daughter.
"I was days and miles and
A cosmos away, on a good day.
I really didn’t want
My daddy watching."
Loving parents know there may be a growing time for their children where the kids have to be away for a time to find their place in the world and the parents are there waiting for the time that the child will mature and come home. Beautiful poem.
Then the best years are ahead until our parents leave us. One day we will be the one to squeeze our child's hands and let them know we will always love them--even from beyond.
Watch Me, Daddy (Poetry) - 2/5/2010 11:44:00 AM
Beautiful, and it brought tears to my eyes. You were lucky with your Poppa, that's for sure! And now you've got a friend on the other side... :)
Watch Me, Daddy (Poetry) - 2/5/2010 11:00:43 AM
PATRICIA...I HAVE BEEN 'TOUCHED' BEYOND MEASURE WITH THIS TRIBUTE...FILLED WITH SUCH GENUINE LOVE AND RESPECT FOR A MAN THAT WAS INDEED...A FATHER TO HIS CHILD. FOR THAT'S ALL WE REALLY WANT...FROM INFANCY-UP...TO BE WATCHED AND TO BE LOVED. YOU HAVE BEEN OVERFLOWING BLESSED WITH THE 'RICHNESS' THAT TRUELY MATTERS AND 'GOLD' THAT WILL NEVER FADE FROM YOUR MEMORY. I KNOW IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR YOU BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS YOU, AS HE HEALS YOU MORE AND MORE EACH DAY.
LOVE, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
Watch Me, Daddy (Poetry) - 2/5/2010 10:28:55 AM
I am very sorry for your loss. It sounds as if you have some beautiful memories, to help you through. Warmth and Love to you during this time and always. Carin'Spirit
Watch Me, Daddy (Poetry) - 2/5/2010 2:00:36 AM
Patti,
My deepest sympathy...and your excellent poem is testimony to a fine man and the great father-daughter bond you had, a true, pure love.
John
The Last of the Best (Poetry) - 11/22/2009 7:29:58 AM
Oh, Patti! What a terrific, moving tribute to your Dad! It's the last verse that really knocks me out. Poetry truly saves and defines us, and you're a gifted practitioner of the ancient art. :)
The Last of the Best (Poetry) - 11/22/2009 12:47:35 AM
Patti,
This is marvellous narrative, not a waste word or phrase, the picture so in focus, and the story the truth and nothing but...excellent confessional, memoir and eloquent tribute. Yes!
John
PS: it took me an age to read this, to decipher the text...sorry to complain, but my very poor eyes can't handle small, I had to use a magnifying glass and it blurs like hell on the monitor.
The Last of the Best (Poetry) - 11/20/2009 6:27:38 PM
A tribute that should gladden the heart of any father.
You're one helluva writer, Pattie. -gene/
The Last of the Best (Poetry) - 11/20/2009 5:41:02 PM

On Growing Old (Poetry) - 11/6/2009 10:19:31 AM
Wise, tough, scary = Patti! :)
On Growing Old (Poetry) - 11/2/2009 9:14:17 AM
Patti,
I appreciate the wisdom in your confrontation with age and history.
More than that, I admire the talent in which you express it; to wit:
Death is an old friend.
I give him his space.
And for the moment,
He gives me mine.
-gene.
On Growing Old (Poetry) - 11/1/2009 4:46:32 PM
"...I give him his space...He gives me mine."
What a generous and wise way of looking at the reality of living and dying, Patti. You face the truth with affirmation of what is, is.
This is very fine indeed.
John
On Growing Old (Poetry) - 10/31/2009 9:54:25 AM
Strong "voice" for those that have lived long enough to know. Death is an old friend, indeed, and death stays close.
On Growing Old (Poetry) - 10/31/2009 7:31:10 AM
Patricia,
I liked this, Patricia. I also give him his space, until he's ready for me. I hope you read my poem, we think alike, except mine's a much different viewpoint on death.
Blessings,
~Linda
On Growing Old (Poetry) - 10/30/2009 5:35:06 PM

Requiem for Marilyn (Poetry) - 7/21/2009 10:18:26 AM
Madonna would love this, Pat. I know I do. -gene.
Wildfire (Poetry) - 7/21/2009 10:15:11 AM
Pat, can any man measure up to these words?
The backlight plays
Shadow games in your hair;
The muscles of your belly
Would drive Michaelangelo
Insane with envy, and
Would make Pygmalion weep.
I mean, they say I've got nice legs but--
-gene.
Midnight Magic (Poetry) - 7/21/2009 9:53:20 AM
My, but I do love this, Pat. So many incredible lines, like...
How beautiful
To hurt so softly.
-gene.
Learning To Fly (Poetry) - 7/21/2009 9:47:20 AM
Dear Wild One II, don't get reckless if I tell you how much
I like this ride on the wild side, but--I like as much or more
the way you tell it. Pat, the writing and the structure of the
writing reveal the hand of a great talent, on and off the Harley.
-gene.
Midnight Magic (Poetry) - 7/21/2009 9:24:23 AM
Are you "talking" about the singer? I love Seal's music. Thanks for sharing, Patricia. Love and best wishes,

Learning To Fly (Poetry) - 7/20/2009 10:50:48 PM
If the only option for your head is in the wind or up the ass, I'll take the wind too. I have a great uncle in his late 70s who still rides his Harleys. I wish you many happy miles. Enjoyed.
The Greening (Poetry) - 7/10/2009 7:41:52 PM
But it is May.

Even now.

Trainspeak (Poetry) - 6/28/2009 2:10:34 PM
Patricia, what a wonderfully written poem.
Until the Doppler
Is white noise
In the distance.
I love the shore, but I miss the sight and sound of the train.
-gene.
Trainspeak (Poetry) - 6/28/2009 11:53:59 AM
Patrician,
A great analogy of the train, who's days have mostly come an end. I can imagine riding the rails and viewing this great country.
Mary

The Greening (Poetry) - 5/15/2009 12:59:45 AM
Great poem, anything can happen in MAY,Take care
Edwin
The Greening (Poetry) - 5/11/2009 8:09:49 PM
Yes, Patricia, anything is possible in May. Like me. I was born
in May along with the flowers and crawly things that bite when I
spread out on the grass and contemplate the meaning of why I was born in the first place. The Russians named a Day after it. And in grade school we named a Pole after it. May cannot be denied. -gene.
Going South (Poetry) - 5/10/2009 12:13:48 PM
And, Patricia, it was Yogi Berra who said, It ain't over
till it's over. So glad you resurrected this painful memory.
-gene.
Fortune Cookie (From Dinner at the Lotus Blossom) (Poetry) - 5/3/2009 11:10:19 AM
Although you "Have no place to go to" you are still going out there inside your head, traveling on the winds of imagination and words to far away places, riding on top of an eighteen wheeler filled with hundreds of fifty pound bags of rice that you loaded yourself until you sweated away ten pounds. I took that trip too--in my head.
Skinny Dipping (Poetry) - 5/3/2009 11:05:53 AM
Now I want to go find a warm pool of wild water and dive in naked.
Going South (Poetry) - 4/1/2009 8:47:36 AM

Desert Song (Poetry) - 3/30/2009 6:21:59 AM
Powerful, Patricia. More important, a brilliant write, well
conceived and beautifully executed. Notably:
And in the middle of a land deemed holy,
Hawk-faced young men
Dabble in fertilizer and fuel oil,
Designing Armageddon.
-gene.
