I strongly believe that a true poet writes what he wants, expresses in his own way, does not have to fence in his words with perimeters that others invented. I have no problem with people who op to do Haiku, Senrus, Odes, specific rhyme patterns etc but we must lways keep in mind someone invented these and there is no law of poetry...write what you feel.

There are never any guarentees in love or marraige. The old way of staying with someone no matter how bad it gets is no more, women don't have to stay and be abused, men don't have to put up with cheating wives etc etc. All we can do is take the best memories we have and walk away.

I can so relate to this poem as I also had a favorite Aunt Aggie (Agnes) who lived in Prince Edward Island which is a fair ways from where I live now. She is in a nursing home there and I so wish I could go visit h er more often.

Your angel is adorable, and the poem itself tells the Christmas story in a wonderful way. The last two sentences add a simple statement in an unexpected way to bring us right back to the present day, where God's love is still supreme.

Oh, this is beautifully, powerfully penned: God bless the soldiers who wear those old boots! My low quarters lasted me 10 years. They stunk to high Heaven. Went to visit my twin sister (when she was living in Ohio), phew! She threw them in the incinerator. LOL! She burned my boots! LOL Have another pair of shoes that are almost as comfortable (and almost as stinky). She's ready to throw them out, too. LOL

Everyone loses in a war but the overall is what loss is less. This reminds me of the song "where have all the young men gone" It's shameful we have not matured as a being to prevent violence as the only action we have to accomplish goals. Wonderful poem.
