Fathers, Sons and Brothers is an interesting read set during the Civil War. It tells the story through the eyes of Union soldier, Nathan. I thought it was good and worth a read. It is not long and I had it done within a few hours.
I give it three and a half stars.

To this reader a story of war is the furthest topic of pleasure reading I would consider, but it has been several years since my sons were in Iraq so thought I would try this book. It was still very difficult to read but glad I did.I was pleasantly surprised to find a heartwarming story of devotion, honor, patriotism, and courage that is an easy read and not full of historical war verbage.
The writer uses what are seemingly trivial details to delve into the lives of the characters. But the story is in the details.
Using the backdrop of a long ago war which unfolds around one soldier allows the reader to understand the trauma this young man has to endure.
The writer's account of the war-ravaged land and the horrors of the noise, smell, and sights of being on the front lines had this readers stopping several times to wipe away tears.
We are given a glimpse into the integrity of Nathan and how he perceives the atrocities he witnesses, his reflections of the state of the Union, and the unfailing hope he has.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end and hope to read another published by this author.

Gus, this is great!! When reading this I could see how your use of third person seems to carry us on to the battlefield with your main character and view the events that unfold from every angle. Your book will be a winner, and the way that you merged with the main character and his surroundings is flawless.

The excerpt is well written and gives an excellent view of what the book will be.
This one is on my to-buy list.

I don't usually like to read military or war novels, but this one obviously has at its core the story of Nathan and Sarah, which is a touching and irresistible one I can't wait to read more of. Great job, Gus!
