The best introduction one can give to this book is to let the would-be reader meet some of the characters;
Bede Olo: "Except for the somnolent Bede Olo inside it, Sapele House, a dormitory block was deserted and quiet....Bede's mind flickered in a trance-like sleep."
Old man: "A stealthy old man approached Bede's bedside furtively. Small and shrunken, his 5'6" frame was swathed in an old homespun loincloth, topped by a threadbare danshiki....Death haunted him like a subject lifted out of a painting by Goya.
Christopher Nomo: "The class one student, by going on such an errand, was made to act the idiot's script; and to play into the hands of both senior students, whose double wrath whipped him silly. More importantly, it made the poor lad a parody of Pilate's declaration to the Sanhedrin in the Hall of Judgment, Ecce stupid!"
The head boy (head of school): "The head of school fleeted through principal's Drive jauntily until he reached the T-junction with the Appian Way. Then he fell into his usual sedate yet rippling gait; like he was the messenger of God."
For such a relatively small book, the several characters make the book thrilling and enjoyable to read.
