Hello Meg: I too enjoyed reading this story. I am not a grandparent yet but one day I hope to be. I feel one of the biggest lessons we can teach our children and grandchildren as well is this...Life comes with disappointments too. There may be a time when you are not able to give to the child everything materialistic that they want and they have to learn to say thank you anyway maybe next time.
I have four sons and I try to do the best for them. But there are times when I don't have anything to give them but a kind word, a hug and a kiss and just be there for them when they need me. This is unconditional love.
I have learned and is still learning we get upset when our expectation are not met. So I have learned to accept no and bounce back. If not now then maybe later. I even teach this to my preschoolers. It's not wrong to say I don't have it this time but later on...who knows what I will be able to do...
