The Misunderstanding V.2 (Short Story) - 2/21/2009 12:40:44 PM
Thank you :)
I wrote this one up very quick for a word war short story contest so the title was just pulled out of the air really. This kind of happened to a friend of mine actually. The names have been changed to protect the (not so) innocent but basically he had been charged with conduct unbecoming near a very small town near where we live that consists of two houses and a gas station and in the system it had been entered incorrectly as genocide. When he was trying to go to the states he was flagged as a terrorist for apparently trying to "wipe out" all three inhabitants of this small town that does not even exist anymore. Which made it even more funny because it seemed as if he had wiped out the entire town.

Very funny. Humor always mixes well with suspense. I think it would be funnier with a different title. "The Misunderstanding" might give too much away up front, and a big part of the story's strength is that it catches you off guard. Still, great job!

Short, cruel and fun. I enjoyed this one.
A Life More Ordinary (First Draft) (Short Story) - 2/19/2009 5:14:34 AM
Originally the chapter was very short (first-first draft :P) and started with the man giving the tour. It needed something though. Usually when I write a first draft I do not care about active voice / passive voice I just write. Then reading it over that's when I do all rewriting and descriptive passages.
The remaining chapters have more dialogue than the first chapter because I wanted to introduce the characters who worked at the circus before wrenching them away from their comfort zone and making them go and live in the burbs :P

I would like to see more dialogue, smell more circus odors, and hear more circus sounds. Color--more circus colors as well. I know this is your first draft and I look forward to reading the end result. Happy writing. Linda
P.S.
You start out great with the circus odors. I would like to see, smell and hear the atmosphere all the way through the story: crows stabbing at popcorn, lovers walking together so close they appear as one, children crying for "just one more ride." I'm not an expert, but I know what I like. And, I like the circus--the circus on hot sweaty nights.
Lost and Found (Short Story) - 2/17/2009 4:31:11 PM
Thank you. This story along with a fee others posted on this site were originally written as part of a larger story arc of a novel entitles "Dateless". It is the story of four outcast girls in high school who have all been labeled as "Dateless" and how they attempt to lose their nickname before they graduate.

Thank you. This idea is being worked on and may or may not end up as an animated piece in the style of Edward Gorey as an anthology of dark takes on fairy takes.
Who U Talkin' 2? (Short Story) - 2/17/2009 4:26:22 PM
Thank you for reviewing my work :)
This one of many that I have written that may or may not end up in a larger work. There are two companion pieces to this short story posted here - "Lost and Found" and "The outing of Emily" I have several other "William and Emily" stories that I am working on as well :)
