I agree, wholeheartedly. Without constructive criticism, people tend to continue to do the same thing and are not able to move forward and learn. I recall many times where constructive criticism by my mentors help me improve greatly, and sometimes, kept me from embarrassment when I wrote something badly and couldn't see the forest for the trees.
"What is about critical writing?" Is not a sentence because it does not have a subject. I think you meant, "What is [all this concern] about critical writing."
