Recent Reviews for Bob mitchley #shock stories

 Family Members (Book) - 5/29/2023 4:33:29 AM
Bob Mitchley has penned a quirky and unique book. Beyond the quirkiness lie heart expressions and life lessons. Much enjoyed.
Elias the Caretaker (Book) - 9/4/2018 1:22:44 PM
I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GO ON THIS ONE...I LIKE THE NAME THOUGH AND, OF COURSE, YOU KNOW WHY. BLESSINGS TO YOU. LOVE AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
Elias the Caretaker (Book) - 8/27/2018 6:49:32 AM
Congrats on your book. I like the title. Quite short for a book of stories. Also no excerpt. Ron
Backseat Driver (Short Story) - 7/30/2026 4:07:18 AM
If only Elias didn't hand over the backpack...

Backseat Driver (Short Story) - 7/29/2026 11:15:01 AM
Turned out entirely different from what I thought. If it's a true story, what a horrifying way to witness something. From the backseat. The only glitch that I found was that most cars, except child safe ones or police vehicles, allow the passenger to be able to open a lock door from inside in order to escape in case of a wreck when the door is locked. Ron

Backseat Driver (Short Story) - 7/29/2026 7:42:54 AM
Hard to believe 56 years have passed.

Having It Out with Myself (Short Story) - 7/21/2026 11:45:02 AM
Dog was not meant to eat man. But to me man's servant. But man will eat man when man is hungry, mad or hateful. On a deeper level, old Abe was just you, hating yourself. Only Jehu understood what was going on in your mind. Ron7

Having It Out with Myself (Short Story) - 7/17/2026 3:39:58 AM
I'd watch out if I were Jehu's master. He may have acquired a taste after devouring Old Abe.

Having It Out with Myself (Short Story) - 7/16/2026 6:28:29 AM
Interesting btw may iknow are you currently writing some thing new ?hat’s awesome! H0nestly, I just really enjoy exploring new stories

Having It Out with Myself (Short Story) - 7/15/2026 8:39:16 AM
That's my dog!

In Lieu of Flowers (Short Story) - 5/9/2026 12:36:03 PM
You both echoed my thoughts. For your Elias to have the power of resurrection, is something that I could never do. But it has real value in this story. And once a woman turns you down at a young age, it is very rare for that woman to change her mind. You started out writing in the third person about the situation, and then, when Elias started to act, you moved into the first person as him. While rare, it works. But I would've written the whole thing in first person…it's more powerful. Ron

In Lieu of Flowers (Short Story) - 5/9/2026 3:30:51 AM
Elias deluded himself into thinking the passage of time would change Loral's thinking. If anything, he must have receded to oblivion in her mind.

In Lieu of Flowers (Short Story) - 5/7/2026 5:51:01 PM
Being in love alone is no fun!

Hanging with Stanley finale (Short Story) - 3/14/2026 11:40:21 AM
That was a dangerous game for two idiots to play. Unless, of course, they are just cadavers still dreaming in the grave. I just heard that some school kids just played a prank on their teacher, and he ended up dead. No charges were filed against them. So life does imitate fiction. Ron

Hanging with Stanley finale (Short Story) - 3/13/2026 3:57:25 AM
Stanley doesn't have far to fall in the barn or in a nearby gravesite on the premises.

Hanging with Stanley finale (Short Story) - 3/12/2026 5:26:03 PM
Sometimes the end is hard to see.

Hanging with Stanley pt. 2 (Short Story) - 3/6/2026 3:24:34 AM
"Where the others were waiting" doesn't bode well to me.

Hanging with Stanley pt. 2 (Short Story) - 2/27/2026 11:24:58 AM
Stanley is split....

Hanging with Stanley pt. 1 (Short Story) - 2/18/2026 9:56:28 AM
Well written and truly scary. Based on the size of the picture, I would say, while there may be some truth in the story, it is purely horrific fiction. You have a knack for writing gripping situations and keep it up. Since this is only part 1, I have a feeling, in part 2, Krump actually, come and save you both. It will take another two years for him to finish the job. Ron

Hanging with Stanley pt. 1 (Short Story) - 2/18/2026 4:01:23 AM
A harrowing incident!

Hanging with Stanley pt. 1 (Short Story) - 2/16/2026 5:27:56 PM
Stanley's time was up.

Rosa (Short Story) - 1/12/2026 12:48:40 PM
This story is dark as hell and it works because Lofn feels real. You actually feel her fear confusion and hope especially in the 911 call the shelter and when the baby is taken. The world is creepy and unfair on purpose and that part lands hard. I do wonder though why literally every adult fails her and if that is intentional or just something to show how broken the system is. Some scenes are really strong but a few feel overloaded. There are moments where so much weird stuff is happening that the emotion gets buried and I wanted the story to slow down and sit with Lofn more. Elias is interesting but he shows up almost too perfectly so I kept asking how he knows so much and why he is there at the exact right moments. The ending is haunting and uncomfortable in a good way. That last reveal with the cooler and the baby talking is messed up and memorable. Overall this feels like a raw unsettling story with big ideas that would hit even harder if some parts were cleaner and a little more focused. I wanna more something like that and also new chapters are coming??

Rosa (Short Story) - 1/9/2026 5:49:25 PM
Rosa, sweet fragrance of life.

A Night at the Mausoleum (Short Story) - 11/23/2025 5:30:23 PM
Elias fights for his sanity, as do we all...

Hair of Cat finale (Short Story) - 11/14/2025 5:16:27 PM
the grand finale

Hair of Cat pt. 1 (Short Story) - 11/8/2025 6:03:18 PM
I knew there was a reason why I didn't like cats...

Inward Neglect/ the finale pt. 3 (Short Story) - 10/18/2025 5:18:26 PM
And that ends it, no more to build on here...

Inward Neglect pt. 2 (Short Story) - 10/5/2025 5:37:04 PM
things are getting dicey at the Upton castle.

Regrets (Poetry) - 8/5/2025 12:40:11 PM
If they're bite size, eat them. I really have no experience because I have no regrets. Oh, I had them, but I just let them go as part of life. Ron

Regrets (Poetry) - 8/4/2025 1:02:21 PM
Shalom to everyone!

Magi (Poetry) - 1/11/2022 3:54:53 PM
Wise men still seek him, they say and I agree. A lovely poem of the wisemen of old.

Magi (Poetry) - 12/19/2021 9:32:36 AM
An interesting Christian myth. Perhaps the source of all of the gift giving. Verifying the story is a great challenge, 21 centuries since. Ron

Talking to Yourself (Poetry) - 11/30/2021 3:55:20 AM
I can identify with what you say… It can be a blessing sometimes… Other times not… Sometimes this mischievous little elf Blurts out things before we have time to think! All part of being human… I like the individuality of your thinking in this poem…quite hard to put into words…but you did! Best wishes, Diana…🍃

Talking to Yourself (Poetry) - 11/27/2021 9:12:51 AM
Revealing a personal quirk… Cool. Usually that happens during sleep. So maybe you are daydreaming. I too, often have a song in my head that I'm humming without humming. I never know the words. ;-) Ron

Talking to Yourself (Poetry) - 11/26/2021 10:38:55 PM
A poem of reality. Yes, sometimes I would blurt out my thoughts too. Sandie

Familiar Face (Poetry) - 11/19/2021 12:37:38 PM
I guess it can happen to anyone in a crowd. I think it's better to act and find out that it's a stranger rather than to avoid further contact. One thing is for certain, there comes a time at class reunions where it's hard to find a familiar face. ;-) Ron

Familiar Face (Poetry) - 11/19/2021 9:14:02 AM
Perfectly and cleverly worded to describe this gentle, uncertain, brief moment in time… Disna…🍃

Familiar Face (Poetry) - 11/18/2021 3:51:21 PM
The tender shyness of this poem is quite appealing. The “too much chatter” so descriptive. This has a pulled back curtain kind of reveal; the chance wave. Good choice of length for this glimpse; brevity of parting glance. I can picture that scene. ~~ djl

Tears (Poetry) - 4/26/2021 10:13:48 AM
I hope the sweet embrace iis your lasting memory... Diana...

Tears (Poetry) - 3/23/2021 10:24:09 AM
WE ARE ALL SO 'HUMAN'. WORDS THAT BRING PAIN AND TEARS...ARE ALL PART OF LIVING. CERTAINLY IN THE MOMENT OF THEIR OCCURRENCE IT HURTS, BUT THANK GOD FOR THE 'MEMORIES', THE PRESENCE OF WHICH BRINGS A SPIRIT OF HEALING AND UNDERSTANDING, AMEN. THANKS FOR SHARING, BOB. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

A Helping Hand (Poetry) - 3/8/2021 8:45:38 PM

Time never erases the deep lines of love and living. Well written Bob, Thank you for sharing.

Tears (Poetry) - 2/20/2021 9:31:46 AM
We all experience sorrow in different ways. You have expressed yours beautifully in words. But now, as La Belle has suggested, it is time to gradually heal and return to life without her. Ron

Tears (Poetry) - 2/15/2021 5:53:06 AM
it is love that we should remember so well

Tears (Poetry) - 2/14/2021 4:39:00 PM
Touched my heart. I hope we can decide to remember the good and refuse to dwell on the bad.

The Island of Dolor (Poetry) - 7/21/2020 1:52:50 PM

The Island of Dolor (Poetry) - 6/8/2020 9:17:06 AM
HOW FINE IT IS TO BE BLESSED TO COME TO OUR ISLAND OF DOLOR...OUR TREASURE(A REASON)! NOW, 'WHY' HAS AN ANSWER! THERE WE FIND AND EMBRACE THE THINGS WHAT REALLY MATTERS, WHICH PROVOKES A DESIRE IN US TO...WANT...TO ENDURE. AND WE DO! FINE WORK, MY FRIEND, THANK YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

The Island of Dolor (Poetry) - 4/2/2020 11:16:07 AM
I'm not exactly sure what you are revealing to us with this strange poetic notion. But I believe the photo is of a grandchild that you are very fond of, but afraid of losing sight of. Perhaps from illness, or not. Ron

The Island of Dolor (Poetry) - 4/1/2020 11:34:29 AM
Your writes are deep and full of sensitivity. I am glad the glacier melted, stay well, hugs

The Island of Dolor (Poetry) - 3/31/2020 7:38:02 AM
If this is a metaphor, I can relate on several levels. If it's not, it seems as if you are struggling with a serious illness, and if so, I am very sorry Bob. Thank you for sharing. A beautiful picture. r

A Tuft of Your Hair (Poetry) - 1/30/2020 11:32:35 AM
A poetic way of expressing something that will never leave your life. And reminders found years later make it even worse. I believe that writing it down helps make it better. Ron

A Tuft of Your Hair (Poetry) - 1/29/2020 8:49:46 AM
One can feel the pain in your words, but they also convey hope. Beautiful.

A Tuft of Your Hair (Poetry) - 1/29/2020 3:48:09 AM
Excellent! Well done! I can identify with your poem Bob. My first wife died of cancer and all the family had tufts of her hair that she had cut before she went bald. After over 30 years, I still have it in an engraved urn in our china cabinet. It was a way to keep her on our minds and in our hearts and something to honor her memory. But the best memory of her is my two daughters who both went on to have families. My oldest granddaughter is named after her. She is one special young lady. These are treasures that money cannot buy. God bless you and your family... John Michael

I wish tomorrow had never come (Poetry) - 1/9/2020 5:12:31 PM
At least you have your memories of Pappy and all the wisdom he shared with you dear poet. I have enjoyed your sentimental poem Bob.

I wish tomorrow had never come (Poetry) - 1/4/2020 4:13:32 PM
We never know what tomorrow might bring. we don't even know what the next hour will bring. But whatever the future has in store, it's up to us to make the best of it and keep moving forward.

I wish tomorrow had never come (Poetry) - 1/4/2020 2:13:15 PM
This one so reminds me of how my grandfather passed away in his sleep and never woke up the following day. It was devastating to those of us who are still living... like there is always this conversation that was not shared with them, and something that needs to be done with them still has not be done with them... The list just goes on every time we think about it. I totally understand how you feel. Sandie

I wish tomorrow had never come (Poetry) - 1/4/2020 2:08:41 PM
The point of my poem today. Our greatest fears are generally wrong when it comes to what happens to us. Unexplained death, like what happened to your Pappy, are what we should fear but we don't, until it happens. Sudden death without explanation happens often in families. Perhaps one of the most difficult things in life to overcome. By writing your poem you have expressed your long-held grief for how it felt that day when hunting didn't happen. Ron

I wish tomorrow had never come (Poetry) - 1/4/2020 1:42:54 PM
No one knows tomorrow but we all have somehow faith that everything will be alright. Sometimes it doesn’t work alright but we trust that God knows the best. It’s good to rest our plans in his loving hands. Happy new year Bob.

Maverick (Poetry) - 5/24/2019 2:28:09 PM
Ah very sweetly written Bob

Maverick (Poetry) - 5/18/2019 12:14:12 PM
I know you love the experience. I don't have children so there are no grandchildren in my future. That's okay. Whenever I run into small children, they are always curious about me. And that's nice. Ron

Maverick (Poetry) - 5/17/2019 4:54:40 PM

Maverick (Poetry) - 5/15/2019 8:31:34 AM

A Helping Hand (Poetry) - 9/4/2018 1:17:16 PM
BOB, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU REALIZE IT OR NOT BUT, THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT GOD DOES FOR US. HE SEES OUR CONDITION BUT HE WAITS UNTIL WE'RE READY TO BE HELPED. THEN HE EXTENDS A HAND TO HOLD (TO REST UPON)AND THEN LIFTING, HE LEADS US TO A PLACE WHERE, STRENGTHENED...WE CAN FLY FREE! I ENJOYED THIS IMMENSELY, THANK YOU! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Home Calling (Poetry) - 2/21/2018 8:02:05 PM

Lord willing your last, Bob. Glad you pulled through. A lot of love in the image. r

My First Heart Attack (Poetry) - 6/20/2017 5:57:13 AM
Like my doctor said when I told him that my left arm hurt me (after sleeping with it in a bad position, probably cutting off circulation) that I had a "Wake up call," and "Had better get my heart checked." In spite of the misread symptom, my heart and arterial system checked out fine on a three dimensional CT analysis. Although I have been misdiagnosed as having heart problems all my life--murmurs, heart nerve problems, etc.--nothing has ever panned out. Still, I think that those who eat hearty like my father and die suddenly of a heart attack (he didn't--died from a bad hospital bug and four months of misery after making a quick recovery from heart valve surgery within elective bypass) get to miss out on the painful slow degradation and eventual nursing home comatose living that I dread, especially with my increasing paralysis and loss of hearing, making verbal communication with my caregivers nearly impossible. Faced with that prospect, a sudden death by heart attack is welcome. After a close call with death from pneumonia in 2012, my affairs are in order. I have no need to look forward to something weird like heaven and leave no regrets about people I've harmed in leaving them behind. Ron

My First Heart Attack (Poetry) - 6/19/2017 9:07:01 PM
We are all vulnerable and will die sooner or later from something. My first wife died from cancer surrounded by family. She said that she wanted to "go home" to be with her maker. I was told I was near death when a brown recluse bit me near my heart. I was not concerned for I know where I am going thanks be to our Lord. Still, I don't like to see anyone suffer in pain. My the Lord grant us all a fruitful life and when the time comes, a peaceful death. Amen

My First Heart Attack (Poetry) - 6/19/2017 3:14:56 PM
I will be facing mine pretty much alone, Bob, and soon too.

Not A Dad (Poetry) - 6/21/2015 10:17:46 AM
An interesting response, considering how he had abandoned you. I recall the funeral of my grandfather who had asked for a week where his son was without answer. His son had left five children from two marriages with a woman who also left five children. My uncle's tough son was there, always trying to live up to his father's legend. But this time, the 13-year-old tough kid was crying in despair, having lost his father and his grandfather in the short span of two weeks. A private detective found the home of my uncle, who died in 1989, in 2005. The two never saw each other again. Ron

Not A Dad (Poetry) - 6/21/2015 7:59:32 AM

Snow Flakes (Poetry) - 11/18/2014 12:19:47 PM
Heavy man… I mean the accumulation of snow upon your limbs. But softly beautiful in the distance. Ron

Snow Flakes (Poetry) - 11/18/2014 8:04:06 AM
The subtext for me is intriguing. But I'm aware also that it may not be what the author originally intended. One of the beauties of poetry; the subjective aspects of interpretation. For this reader: the writer created palpable imagery for what each individual endures, is capable of handling, and their eventual breaking points if life and circumstance throws too much at them. Though we are all uniquely different we are all the same and subject to the same forces as those around us. Enjoyed.

Snow Flakes (Poetry) - 11/18/2014 5:46:03 AM
Lots of early snow flakes this year - it's gonna be a long winter!

Snow Flakes (Poetry) - 11/17/2014 5:59:44 PM
I used to enjoy the first snow fall of the season Watching the starter few flakes swirling aimlessly Than return to the house wondering how deep will it in the morning be Now I enjoy the sounds of the croaking frogs in the wetland during snowy Season up north Peace be with you William

Erin's Garden (Poetry) - 5/27/2014 12:21:31 PM
A garden, like many other things in life, needs nurturing and care with love to make things grow. It also needs others to appreciate the hard work and time that was put in. I'm so glad you care and notice the hard work and efforts that was put in. Beautiful veggies! Sandie

We come from different sides, but I can assure you that she hears all you tell her... Each birthday toast her, each holiday remember her, tell her how much you love her and you will feel her near you... trust and believe... Love and Light, Lily

well penned & heartfelt Bob there is always something that triggers a memory, a sight, a taste, a scent, a touch, an object, I thank God for all those he has given me some brought a smile, some a tears, but it was there only for me. Peace be with you William

Healing Snow (Poetry) - 12/21/2013 4:38:13 PM
Yes, it hurts like a hole in the heart. I lost my first wife to cancer and she did not make it to see her 37th Thanksgiving. So every year it leaves a sad void in my heart because you never know when a loved one may go... Amen

Healing Snow (Poetry) - 12/21/2013 9:08:35 AM
At times like this, memories of those times, like when it snowed, become very important. Ron

A Helping Hand (Poetry) - 11/7/2013 8:41:05 PM
I enjoyed reading your lovely poem and what a dutiful thing to do than to save a helpless creature life by setting him free and opening the door to let him fly away to his destiny.

A Helping Hand (Poetry) - 11/4/2013 1:26:19 AM
Nice write Bob! Yes, it bugs me when little guys get caught indoors and want out. It's always nice to help them exit as being in nature is what it's all about. Amen!

A Helping Hand (Poetry) - 11/3/2013 10:55:44 AM
What a wonderful way to save a hummingbird! In a terrible winter storm with the wind blowing almost horizontal, a screech owl flew down my stone fireplace chimney, twice. When my brother and I could not frighten the already frightened bird out of the house, I found that the featherlight creature would sit on the end of my broom while I carried it back out into the maelstrom. Once again it flew back in. The second time, it didn't. Later, after placing the plywood cover I had for fireplace, we found the dead owl had tried to scratch his way out of the plywood what died in the ashes. If that were to happen again to me today, I would let the little owl perch in my house until the storm was over the next day. And then let him out into the bright sunlight to find a place to sleep for the day. Ron

Politics (Poetry) - 9/1/2013 7:47:38 PM
Perceptive and witty slant-of-view Mr. Mitchley. Crisis never really leaves us to our sunny days. It only pops up somewhere else in some other guise. I'm reminded of the mayor of Chicago. "Never let a good crisis go to waste". Bob

Politics (Poetry) - 9/1/2013 6:19:39 AM
Quite reformably inappropriate. Ron

Time Warp (Poetry) - 8/11/2013 10:44:04 AM
Fascinating. To think that one could look into the mirror of someone like Washington Irving and see what he saw over a century before. This seems like the ideal fodder for a short story. Ron

Spring Cleaning (Poetry) - 4/7/2013 11:12:37 AM
That picture of forsythia reminds me of my time in West Virginia where forsythia grew wild. As for bluebirds, I have heard that they are in great danger as their numbers decline. You are so fortunate to have seen a nesting pair and be able to write about it. Ron

Sharing Home (Poetry) - 3/19/2013 11:15:18 AM
I love wrens!! Fave is the Carolina wren. Got this great racing stripe on its face and more spunk than a barrel o'monkeys. You have done a wonderful job of getting across a mama wren's irrascibility. She WILL protect her brood! You had BETTER get outta her way! I love their chitchat; I love their sandpapery, fuss-budgety curses (for lack of a better description); I love the way they greet spring with song. Thank you so much for reminding me how much company they are {whether they want to be, or not} and what fine examples they set by being true year after year to their spouses and workin' like it's goin' outta style. "Ratcheting" is perfect. Whole scene!! x:)x Phyllis x:)x

At first, you had me thinking, “owl.” The wren is perfect. While they seem to like human habitation, they certainly will protect their nest from all harm, including that of the owner of their abode. Ron

Marriage (Poetry) - 2/12/2013 9:28:31 AM
1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 4 Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited, 5 and she is never rude; she never thinks just of herself or ever gets annoyed. She never is resentful; 6 is never glad with sin; she’s always glad to side with truth, and pleased that truth will win. 7 She bears up under everything; believes the best in all; there is no limit to her hope, and never will she fall. Love and Light Lily

A Still Small Voice (Poetry) - 9/19/2012 12:01:07 PM
Peace to you, enjoyed reading your writes today.

A Still Small Voice (Poetry) - 9/4/2012 11:18:57 AM
One needs to evict the noise of the world to hear that still small voice. Much daily prayer. So Jezebel sent a message to Elijah. She said: "You can be sure that I will kill you, just as I killed the other prophets. I'll do it by this time tomorrow." Elijah was afraid. So he ran for his life. Been in similar situations. It becomes overwhelming. In my experiences only interceding in tongues gets you through. And even then it feels like you're in a rowboat in a hurricane at times. The seductive and violent powers of the Jezebelean spirit can humble the best of the best. It's not an easy battle, even with the Holy Spirit. We all get knocked down. Multiple times. Thank God for the merciful hand that reaches out to us when we do. Enjoyed your thoughts. Peace ...

Gravity of Life (Poetry) - 8/29/2012 6:46:29 AM
If this is personal, it is disturbing because I see no positive effort to change things in it. Ron

Gravity of Life (Poetry) - 8/26/2012 8:45:08 PM
An enigma, gravity. Gravid, riddled and disconcerting. Like this piece, Bob. Nice work. Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen
