There's a way of understanding that exists in different avenues of work, its talking shop.

There was a fair number of employees, they worked in two units. the fabricators in one and the fitters in the other. It all worked like a dream, the buisness rose to great hieghts, times were good.

Well the profits soared, everyone was happy it meant a bonus each year to fill their pockets.

Over the years, the fabricators had refined their skills, as new workers were bought in they soon learned the language, soon fitted into the team.

The fitters rejoiced in their end of the road life, the glory boys who rolled out the goods, bright and shining ready for the market place.

It was all like a healthy rivalry, that sort of raised the bar of expectation, they both wanted to do better than the otherside.

Well good times are supposed to bring better times, and the company bosses were looking at ways to expand the buisness. They had set their sights on a brand new industrial unit, large enough to keep the buisness all under one roof. A plan that no one saw a flaw in.

So it was after 42 years, the company finally closed its doors on the two units, the fabricators and the fitters, From next month they were all in the new industrial unit.

At first it seemed like teething troubles, which was expected, but then it flared up into an outright bad situation. The harmony was gone, no one was getting along. The healthy rivalry that had existed was no more, and worse, it was as if the company had become embroiled in a language problem.

In the 42 years of the companies existance it had developed as the two seperate units, in those units they spoke their 'shop talk', used their trade mark language, and sorted out their own problems in their code of behaviour. Now it was all one way no way.

The old friendships had changed, it was as if not everyone was from the same company, suddenly union shop stewards were making claims of harresment as management tried to bind the company together. It was not going to work, the 'shop talk' languages of the past had divided the new, one unit company.

Soon production was falling behind, orders were not going out on time, gradually buisness was lost, and the boom time was now a gloom time.

The once proud company was gradualy wound down,lay-pffs came, they could never recreate the harmony that had been in the past. 'Shop talk' had changed everything, almost bought opposing enemies to the battlefield, and in the end, 'shop talk' silenced the company forever. Now the creditors were in, talking shop.
